Recent build lacks any cage bosses. I've used clamp on cages on old frames before, but I'm wondering what else is available. Bike is pretty retro, I could see it with bar mounted cages. What are the options?

Seat mounts are available, but I've never used one.

if it's really retro, this is the way to do it:

http://www.vintage-bike-shop.com/IMG/jpg/cycle+water+bottle+seatpost+bottle+cage+mount+retr o+style++retro+bicycle+-2191-8.jpg

practically, this is the way to do it:

the ghetto, but very effective method:

and of course, the bottle rocket approach

The first option looks cool, but pricey I'd guess.

And there's the Zefal Gizmo.

Email me if interested. Will price reasonably. I have metallic red, metallic blue, and possibly white. Comes with seatpost mount, and two matching cages.

I've used two of this Minoura mounts on my Zanc cxer with Elite Ciussi Inox cages attached. It's for 31.8mm bars, and is quick-release (<10 seconds).

My son has this mounted on his 16" BMX bike handlebar. It is for 22.2mm/25.4mm bars and takes 5 minutes and an allen key to remove.

Both of the Minoura mounts mount the bottle vertically in front of the stem - a la Coppi.

This look is so cool. I'd love to do something like this with an old frame... All pics should be in sepia or b&w though.

I'd feel like this on every ride.

Mark... How retro is retro??

There are lots of handlebar bottle mounts, without going vintage/pricey.

If you're using 25.4 or 26.0 bars there are several silver alloy ones. (VO, Trek)

If you're using 31.8 there are more modern black/plastic versions. (ie Topeak)

There is this Problem solvers, black, metal, both sizes:

I went with a simple single cage mount:

Saint Bernard wood keg strapped to the bar may look cool.

I like the looks of the Minoura, ordered one last night.

I don't know the age of the bike for sure, but I'd guess 1970s. It's a 531 Bob Jackson, they probably looked the same for 20 years.

I like the looks of the Minoura, ordered one last night. You'll find it works as well as it looks actually. I've been generally pleased with Minoura stuff. It's like they have an engineer on staff.
