Unless I missed it, no one has started a 4th of July ride thread yet...

Here is my Black Mountain Cycles MonsterCross in front of the CGC Alex Haley in Kodiak... Happy 4th and remember those who gave all...

Hot here today on the east coast. 90 and humid. We got out early for 53.5 miles with 6000 ft climbing. Legs are toast, so it is all about sitting on the sofa, visiting with family, and drinking a beer or two, for the rest of the day.

Pre-4th ride - Last weekend I rode up to craggy gardens on the NC Parkway from Asheville. Here's the obligatory bike pic at about halfway up -

Took the Elk Mtn. road back down to Asheville, someone had written the grade percentage on the road for those coming up, I saw 2 "13%" along the way. Here's a "selfie" I took along the way.

In Asheville I saw this 3rensho road tandem:

JVP, what's the last shot with the tandem? Flea market? Bike shop?

Thanks
Mike

It was at Hearn's bike shop in downtown Asheville. I don't know if it was in for service, or for sale. All they sell are used bikes now.

105k ride here in Charlotte through the drizzle.

Earned my burger and beer, that's for sure.

I went to work. :(

It rained all morning...the afternoon looked stormy but stayed dry until I got home (of course)...so I rode inside on the trainer until the storm passed by. Then I did a couple of laps on the boring 13 mine loop around my house. Getting really tired of this loop. (I normally ride it whenever the weather is threatening, as I'm never more than 5 miles from home.)

I got in a nice 64 miles this morning. There was light fog/haze that didn't burn off until almost two hours into the ride.

I got out early before it got too hot and did a bunch of climbing and over one major pass - what a stunning morning it was - warm and still and sunny.

Then in the afternoon it got so hot and sunny that the rear window of my Mini Cooper daily driver exploded in tiny chunks out onto the driveway. Fun.

But all in all it was a great day followed by a fresh pesto dinner with a best friend and Karin.........not bad I say.

Tomorrow it's back to the bench.

High of 88 degrees here today, but humidity kinda low. Got in 37 miles this afternoon. Nice tailwind on the flats for about 12 miles. A little climbing on each end of it.

Tandem Rider

Got in on the local 4th of July group ride on the tandem with Mrs TR, low 70's low for us humidity, light wind. If you took a sheet of paper and wrote down a wishlist for weather, we had it today. Very pleasant time, been missing out on all the group rides due to work issues (end of whine). Rolling hills, 50ish miles, 2:20, popped off a couple of hard efforts late in the ride. Felt surprisingly good the entire time.
Block party in the evening, food, sangria, and beer. I'm going to have to go long tomorrow just to deal with all the food, especially the paella and rhubarb pie.

100 miles and 6000 something feet of climbing in the Nj humidity. I wanted to go swimming afterwards but had to settle for a cold shower and a nap.

Went for a group ride with 4 others I'd never met before in NW CT. The locals there sure like to ride long and climb a lot.

nearly 7 hours, 116 miles and about 10000' of climbing. hot and humid. Passed numerous swimming holes that were o so tempting...

Went for a lovely ride between squalls, highlight was the climb to the top of Mt. Philo in Charlotte, the grades on which hit 18%. It is a great vantage point over Lake Champlain. I lingered long enough to let the heart rate go down, then headed out to beat the next squall coming in over the lake. Mt Philo was a good vantage point for viewing activity on the lake in both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.

Either they are flying faster or I am moving slower these days- swarms hung with me on the climbs and nibbled my ears.
Legs.
Arms.

Bites turned into big hot welts afterwards. Arrrgh!!

I may have to stick to the road for a couple of weeks.

I had one, or some sort of biting fly anyways, fly inside my half unzipped jersey yesterday. It had lunch and dessert it seems. I counted 6 bites on my stomach and chest this AM!

50 easy miles through some hills, nothing too crazy.
