View Full Version : Is the weather cooperating for ANYONE?

Bruce is having Tornados... Another day of potential pop up severe thunderstorms here... I see triple digit heat in a large part of the country...

This climate change is really messing with my riding. :help:

Yes,,, but I hesitate to say anything for fear of changing the luck. Right now, it's 76 F and partly cloudy, humidity 54% and light breeze from the NW.

Really strange weather for us, for July. This is compared to last year, when we had weeks of 100+ degree days with high humidity. Heat indices were 105 and above.

The month of June was actually quite tolerable here in the Piedmont of NC.

While it seems we have been moved to a tropical rain forest, complete with thunder showers nearly every evening, the overall temps have been somewhat cooler than usual.

My schedule allows me to get out in the mornings, before the showers and wind builds too much. The biggest problem this season has been keeping up with all the mowing.

Yet another Mike...

It seems messed up also in Central Florida. Usually this time of year...our rainy season, it rains about every afternoon. So no problem getting a ride in early.

Last few days....it's been raining all day long....off and on. Have got in some short rides....that's about all. Roads and trails messy, etc. No problem with heat though.

Interestingly enough we get sun around 8 pm :) But no, shower rain, very humid, the next two weeks probably wont get a single mile, dont like to ride with that weather :/

90 degrees when i left my house at 4:30am...yes, a.m., today in Vegas. While we do heat regularly here in the desert, no one does 117. People who like heat don't like 117.
One positive from all this, next Monday it's supposed to be 104, from here it sounds like a cooling trend.

I had pretty decent weather for my entire vacation "out west"...arrived in Boulder on the last day and it was 99 (Peter was extra warm and welcoming)!...got back to the convection oven that is St. Louis and it was only 75...weird.

Now it's raining hard, but I'm on jury duty, so no matter.

I haven't complained about a ride being too hot yet this year even though I prefer it a little cool to a little hot. The weekend rides were both at 70 degrees and sunny but that was at 10,000 to 12,000 ft elevations.

My biggest weather gripe is they cancelled fireworks on the 4th up in the mountains because it's pretty dry up there.

beautiful here for the last couple of days, but chance of rain tonight/tomorrow. I rode 90 miles on Sunday, never broke a sweat, was actually getting a bit chilly as the sun went down.

It's been cooler and damp so a slow spring/summer for things. No rush to trade it for the furnace west of here though.

And I followed up on Bulldogge's visit to Boulder (and Vecchio's) and am please to report it's been in the mid 70's since Sunday, with a forecast of warming temps into the high 80s over the weekend. It was high 90's low 100's when I was here last year.

Couldn't asking for much better riding weather than Boulder right now.

In Central Texas, we're usually in "permanent A/C mode" this time of year. Wake up temps are in the upper 70s or even 80s. Imagine my surprise this morning when my wife returned from her boot camp workout and opened the exterior door to our bedroom to let in some cool, dry air in (I think it was in the 50s!). So this weather is definitely working out for me.

Temps and humidity have been pretty nice here in Derby City. Lots of rain, though. I had to use a shop vac a couple times the other night as water invaded the basement. But after last year's drought, I'm not gonna complain.

Here in FL it's been raining almost nonstop for what seems like a week. Riding solo is ok but I don't care much for drinking the water off someone's rear tire.

Ummm; I've been too busy trying to breathe (embarassing when your Garmin autopaused because it thinks you're not moving on the steep stuff); coming from 867 feet elevation in WI is always a challenge the first few days -- as are the extra pounds that haven't all come off this season. Partly because of:

Here in Wisconsin the weather is cooperating every third day.

Yup, with all the rain my June mileage was way below Jun 2012.

I may or may not get some pics snapped. Besides, who wants to see all the sweat and spittle on my top tube?

For three of the last six weeks I almost passed on a Thursday evening ride because it looked like rain. We went anyway and never had to cut the ride short.

That said, it's rained a lot here in East Tennessee, and we expect a lot more in the next few days.

Well up here in the N.W. corner of Washington state on the Olympic Peninsula
this week has been fantastic. The temps have been in the 68-74 deg range wind in the afternoon 5-10 mph, but the best part No Rain, yeah. Of course next week could be back to our windy, and rainy weather I hope not though.
Have a great day

In northwestern Vermont, Not Today ! And the pattern is holding for the east coast, with a humongous Bermuda High just locked in there, rotating tropical moisture up from the Caribbean like a freight train on a mission. Wow. The bigger these zones, the harder they are to move out, just like the dry spell in the Southwest. The jet stream is all screwed up with the climate change issues.

I changed my schedule a month ago to have time to ride in the morning before work. I'm on the road from 5a-7a and it was going great up until today - it was too foggy to ride safely.

Yesterday morning, the roads were wet but the clouds held back until I was pulling back into my neighborhood. I've gotten to where I enjoy riding in the dark (it starts getting light about 5:45a) - the wind is usually pretty calm and I choose roads that have light traffic and/or choose a direction opposite to the auto commute.

typical texas summer here. Hot as heck. today at around 7pm while standing outside with bike in hand it gets dark, wind picks up, temperature drops a few degrees, thunder is heard in the distance, radar on local newscasts shows clouds/rain moving into the area. you can smell rain in the air. and then......it doesn't rain. after changing out of biking gear i go to a resturant for dinner, come outside a little after 8pm and see the sunset in a semi-clear sky. arrrg...... hello summer. more of the same for rest of the week.

. . . which is hellish for this part of the country. My buddy Kevin and I had a nice ride last night even though it as over 90. I just make sure to put a sweat band under the do-rag that's under my helmet so the sweat doesn't drip in my eyes and we're good. As long as we kept moving to create a breeze it was fine and after the sun dipped below the treetops it was really nice.

But everybody around here is complaining . . . one of my cycling frinds here at work was B'ing & M'ing and I just told him it's like the for 3 months EVERY summer in KS and OK. He got real quiet.

Still, I'll take this over the weather that led to starting this thread, constant threat of severe thunderstorms. I'll ride in the heat happily.

Massachusetts, wicked hot wicked humid.

It's Monsoon season here, so the humididity is hovering in the 20-30% range. When you get over 105 or so that can really suck. I've been getting out on the road at 4:45 AM to beat the heat. The dark sure makes repairing a flat a PitA.
Yesterday I looked longingly at my leg warmers.

Not to rub it in (as I do every winter), but after a spring and early summer of hellacious winds, and excessive heat, it is finally beautiful here in San Luis Obispo. We have had the usual 15 to 20 knot northerly winds, which make you pay if you don't get on the road early, but the humidity has been in the 40% range, and highs have been 75 to 80° for the past week.
So here we aren't complaining.

It was 93F / 102F (index) last night with win around 15-20mph.

Got up early and went for a short 1h ride in 80 degrees with 79% humidity. Was better than I expected.
When I got back humidity was up to 87% and that's when it feels like your whole respiratory system gets coated with a thin layer of olive oil with every breath you take.

Doesn't happen too often but today is one of those days where I regret that I moved from San Diego back to Chicago 13 years ago.
