Another very entertaining stage today! I gotta say, mixing in these medium mountain stages early on the Tour is something that should be done going forward. One week straight of flat stages has never interested me. These rolling stages are so more unpredictable (from a racing strategy point...not stupid bus debacle unpredictability) and exciting.

I have to agree.

A few flat stages are good, but a whole week of them is boring. Watching the the peloton stalk their prey with a sociopathic precision that gives them exactly 5k to get their lead outs in order doesn't really get me too excited. Days like that, you can probably watch the last few km from the helicopter view and get 99% of the excitement of the whole day.

And, it was stunningly beautiful there today... overcast and drizzly here and forecast to be so the rest of the work week, with thunderstorms.

Good lively racing, and great helicopter shots of the coastline and historic villages when not much was happening. Overall, a fine start to the tour, IMO, buses not withstanding.

Cool! Thanks for the non-spoiler heads up. I couldn't be bothered to wake up to watch the stage this morning, but this review made me head over to cyclingtorrents.

I agree, its been a real pleasure watching the tour so far. The hilly stages make it so much more interesting and entertaining to watch. it tends to favor the all around cyclists, which most of them are, over the few specialists. Add in the scenic landscapes and terrain with great filming from the helicopter and it makes you start looking into vacations there. Props to NBC for their coverage.

At what point, however, does an announcer who continually garbles names and misidentifies stage winners cease to be quaint?
