total rip-off.

it's mostly a self-congratulatory thing from the fixed-gear hipster crowd. The ever self-righteous Lucas Brunelle will probably make another short film about riding dangerously in NYC and provoking motorists...

Oh, and they will smoke pot in the theater, too. And when i confronted the organizer at the end of the evening's viewing, his response was: i don't have time for that right now, and it'd be rude to all the other people.

I had to remind him that a) any smoking was illegal in the theater, and that b) it's quite ironic that he's worried about rudeness now but now when the cohort of the fixed-gear hipster "film makers" were making everyone else uncomfortable by lighting up.

Caveat emptor

I went to it in Chicago 2 years ago, thought the films were pretty good. One on a NYC night crit, a mini bio on Pegoretti, one that followed a group of Japanese road riders on their quest for the best noodles, and one on Bilenky's junkyard CX race were all memorable.

There's also this bike film thing going on tomorrow in Williamsburg, a couple of silent films about six day racing:

It's in conjunction with an exhibit about velodromes on Coney Island. Should be fun, but there's definitely the chance for malodorous fumes wafting into your olfactory glands, as it is an outdoor film screening about track bikes in Williamsburg.
