merci.

Worst name for a climb is a tie between this and Super Besse, which just sounds like a giant cow to me.

Super Besse is on the hill above Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise.

Just imagine if Mt. Washington were called Above-Pittsburgh. Same thing. The French, not that inventive... Though they did save Western Culture between say 476 and 1400, so fair play to them for that.

But I like the image of SuperBessie.

And with the TroAH, you need to make it sound kinda like you're clearing your throat.:)

Trois is pronounced like "twah" as the French "r" is sorta silent and the "oi" sounds like "ah".

Similarly- menage a trois ( me-nazh-a-twah)

croissant (qu-ahh-son)

croix de fer (quah-deh-fer)

except the "r" sound comes from the throat in french (so its a slight gurgle), not from the front of the tongue.

Put the name in google translator and it will speak for you in very good French. Being a native French speaker I was impressed when I was shown this feature. The accent is very neutral and the enunciation very precise.

enr1co must be a language coach, spot on. Do not pronounce the "r" in "fer" as a person from the U.S. mountain states or a native Californian would. The R in this instance comes from the back of the mouth, not the front. :hello:

I was thinking of a witty comeback about the Grand Tetons. But then I realized the image wouldn't be appropriate.
