I currently have a Problem Solver Clamp on my Kirk- I have added a photo to show what it looks like- its the one on the left- the problem is that the fixing bolt enters the clamp (when looking down from the saddle) at about 7 o'clock and exits at maybe 2 o'clock-

On a Shimano clamp- the bolt enters at about 6 o'clock at exits straight back pointing towards the back tire-

I am getting a bit of rubbing on my fender (only with my cross tires) due to the fixing bolt-

A shimano clamp would fix the issue- but from what I understand - Shimano no longer makes a 1 1/8 clamp- they only offer shims to glue to a 1 1/4 clamp- I dont really want to do that-

I am wondering if anyone out there has a line on a true 1 1/8 Shimano clamp- in the end- I can always trim my fender to make thing work- but I would rather find the right clamp-

The LBS is working on it for me- but I figured I would give my Serotta pals some home work to do

Thanks

Would a 28.6 clamp-on derailleur work for you?

Would a 28.6 clamp-on derailleur work for you?

it should- but it depends on the clamp shape- my dura ace derailleur is nearly new- I would prefer to just change the clamp- considering my derailleur is a DA10-

Okay...'cause I'm sure you knew that they make a 28.6 derailleur, including a Dura-Ace 10-speed model.

they really dont- they only make a clamp down to 1 1/4 (at least now)- then to go down to 1 1/8 they sell you shims that you glue inside of the larger clamp-

I have already been down this route-

Really? Then how come the mail-order places have the 1 1/8 and 1 1/4 listed separately?

Edit: Even Shimano's website (http://bike.shimano.com/catalog/cycle/products/component.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441762892&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302040056&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181419&bmUID=1134592924622) lists a band diameter of 28.6 and 31.8.

that's just silly.....

Maybe you could send it back to Dave and he can replace the seat tube with a fatter one....or maybe braze on a derailleur hanger? You should have it back, after JB gets done with it, in time for next Xmas!!! ;) :D :D   :fight:

Hey dirt -- I didn't have any success searching the Internet for a 28.6 braze-on adapter from Shimano. You could post a WTB on the rec.bicycles.marketplace newsgroup and you might get lucky.

Ozz-

I am not going to stake my life on it- but that is what I am reading and hearing out of shimano- they made three clamps up until a year or so ago- now it is only two sizes- to get a 1 1/8 they sell you this bag of shims to glue inside of a 1 1/4 clamp-

yes if I would have known- I would have had dave just add a braze on- maybe I should send my bike back?

NO EFFIN' WAY :p

Jason,

I'll check my "box O stuff" tonight when I get home. I know I have one somewhere in there, but I'm not sure on the geometry.

I just spoke to Shimano- they make a front clamp for 1 1/8 derailleurs- but they are the ones with the fixed clamp- not the braze on type- so it is looking like I may need to buy a new deraillure-

I guess that is easier than sending the bike back to dave or changing over to campy
