Look at this Vintage Collection For Sale

Yes, I know that one bike from this collection was already posted as a PSA - the Colnago - but I thought some of you would enjoy easy-to-view photos of some of the others.

I guess I could have posted this as a PSA in the Classifieds, but I think most of you will be lookers rather than being in the market for the bikes this ebay seller has listed here (http://www.ebay.com/sch/Vintage-Bicycles-/177858/i.html?nma=true&item=121126418608&si=TWFVKByhshL4u7q67HOmIU7D0e0%253D&orig_cvip=true&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&autorefresh=true&_ssn=13ron&LH_PrefLoc=2). Anyone in the IL area know anything about this collection/seller?

I narrowed the link down to his "Vintage Bicycles" listings, but he also has a couple of nice motorcycles for sale, and a bunch of other stuff. I agree his pricing is high, but can't argue with him trying the market, and he has sold 5 complete bikes over the past 5 days at his asking prices for an average of over $5k per bike.

Quite a collection of over 40 vintage bikes (wow, that ~1948 Bianchi!, that Condor!, that Ephgrave!, that Butler Olympic!, the lugs on that Gloria! . . . ), all appear to be in excellent condition, upon only a cursory glance through them, most appear to be fully period-correct, if not original, many are in fact NOS. I have had to exercise restraint - my own selection is already too large, and I continue to try to move the excess out. I agree. Thanks ORMojo. I really enjoy and appreciate stuff like this. Nice to come home this evening, relax with a cocktail and enjoy some great pictures of some very nice bicycles. And then I wonder .....What would it ride like? Thanks again! :beer:

If you are ever in Burlington, VT make sure to stop by the Old Spokes Home to see their collection of cool old bikes. It's pretty amazing.

If it weren't for the private collectors, much of the good older stuff would already be gone. There is simply not enough interest to pay for a "museum or 20" of just bikes. There are many private collections of over 50 quality bikes and more than a few with 4 times that. Many of them can be found on flicker or other public sites to be viewed.

Yes, you can ride them too...that's what they're for. I hate to see resprays unless they a so far gone you have to repaint to help preserve them.
