no.
i eff-ed up royally.
having crashed on fri training in that snow,
i experienced major head problems with the
course. i got a great start, but crashes all
around me ruined my first lap. when i finally
got a groove thing going, the ice was my
personal jesus moment, and i unravelled
from there on. i simply could not focus after
lap two - and quit. major disappointment.

When you couldn't focus you became a pending accident with the probability of hurting yourself and taking some others with you. I didn't hear you write  that you quit because you were tired or cold--couldn't focus= get off the bike before you hurt yourself. When I'm not sharp driving on the track I park it too. Remember all the good races you had this year and how you won't miss training recovering from a wreck when you couldn't focus.

racing isn't just about the race. it's all the dedication, the work, the sacrifice, the effort you put into being a "racer". sure, having a bad race sucks. but dude, you put yourself on the line, you did the work. in my book, that counts just as much, if not more, than what happens on race day. besides, the conditions sucked. brutally tough. kick *** next year.

I was at this snowball fight and a 'cross race broke out...

Geez E-richie, there's a reason we let ourselves say NO. It's because we know better than we think we do. Sometimes it's good to listen to the NO.

last year i had only one bicycle in portland.
that was a 2 bike a lap course. hence, i secked.
the conditions were much worse the other day.
no real mud buildup. lakatraction was the culprit,
especially after letting my ribs heal for a month.

I read a blog from a dedicated 32 YO female who raced in the elite women and fell 5 times.

Richie......those of us that are older know that sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.........as Climbo says, you put yourself out there, you took the risk, you are more alive than most because you reached for it......don't beat yourself up because it was beyond your reach THIS TIME.......Hell, if you took that attitude, would you have continued torching after the first frame?

I admire you for gettin' out there.

Those conditions were hell.

. . . almost 350 shots. But I'm probably not going to be able to get them edited and posted until AT LEAST this weekend. But I am working on it.
