Irish Cycling Executive Faces Opposition
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Pat McQuaid failed to secure the nomination of his own national cycling organization in his bid for a third term as president of the International Cycling Union. Geoff Liffey, the chief executive of Cycling Ireland, said the governing body voted, 91-74, against endorsing McQuaid at a general meeting Saturday in Dublin. McQuaid may still run for the presidency after the Swiss cycling federation approved his endorsement request last month. He is opposed by Brian Cookson, the British Cycling president.
