View Full Version : Tissue paper summer jerseys?

I stopped by the LBS on the way home and found a jersey I quite liked. It was a Bellwether Criterium. Very light weight, mesh and breathable, a great summer jersey for Arizona. ...and at $35 (on sale), cheap. Probably not the most elegant, well made or sun protective, but it looks like it will work well for hot morning rides.

Anyone else have any cheap summer jersey recomends? I want something the wind blows right through.

Castelli makes some uber-lightweight jerseys that breathe well and are well-made. Sorry but I can't recall the collection name. I'm sure they have zero SPF.

Castelli Climber's jersey is super lightweight. Castelli Aero Race jersey has a tiny bit less mesh on the shoulders but is still very very lightweight.

Of course, the San Remo combines the top of the Aero Race jersey with Bodypaint shorts, and has no bib straps, so that's the coolest kit of all, in my opinion. When it's over 85d, I resent wearing anything else.

BTW, between the Gabba, the Fedele, and the above jerseys, Castelli is freakin' killing it.

lots if choices but once you say cheap many go away

Indeed, thus my crowd-sourcing of the question. What I'm basically looking for is a jersey that uses nice mesh material but leaves out the bells and whistles like full zips and non-slip waist bands.

Full zip is mandatory for me. Works better than any mesh fabric just to open that bad boy up.

From what I understand, Castelli recommends you slather your entire body in sunscreen for their Climber's jersey. The thing is basically full mesh.

Tough to get any lighter weight than that.

I'd take sweat over sunscreen + sweat. Yuck.

I have this jersey from Dainese (not typically a cycling company, but all their moto stuff is pretty good). Super thin and light, I only use it when it's 95+ though.

Belt and suspenders thinking. Here is AZ, training during the summer at a time when the sun is more than 10 degrees over the horizon is...well...not a good thing. I wear sunscreen when I'm working in the field, but I have yet to use it while riding. I'm never out late/early enough to get burned. YMMV

We have a guy in our neighborhood who runs at 3:00 in the afternoon...yesterday at 113 degrees. Wears a full body suit and a big hat. Ijit. I can see absolutely no reason to do that unless you're training for a foot race across the Sahara. Weekdays I'm out at or before Civil Twilight (4:45 AM).

one of my team jerseys last year was all mesh, and we had the nicest tan lines of the peloton.

not only do you get the farmers tan on the arms, you get the bib tan on the back!

If it's going to be super hot, I'd skip the jersey altogether.

Wow big bucks, don't really like the design, but must have one. Which Castelli size corresponds to:

- Santini xtra large
- Giordana large
- Sportful xtra large

Should be an XL.

BTW: I bought both of my Castellis at Chainlove for less than $40 each, so they can be found fairly inexpensively.

Castelli's sizing is all over the road, it's really hard to tell. Sometimes they're painfully small and I need to size up, and other times it's the "standard Euro" size. So my Gabba jersey is medium, my Mortirolo Due jacket is small, and my thermal bib shorts are medium (never worn anything BUT small).

Thanks, Steve in SLO's input shows the Climber leans to euro-sizing. ODAT Tracker: on.

Is there a similar tracker for Windows or Android?
