Hi All. Just put Red TRP 960's on my new build.

Problem is I like running 25's & 28's and the frame and fork can handle 'em. Unfortunately the brakes cannot. Currently have Conti 4000s 23's on HED C2 rims and it looks like the TRP 960's can't handle anything bigger.

Before I try my hand at stripping down some BR-7800's and have them anodized red, can anyone offer some other suggestions?

I hear the Zero G's are a PITA, eeBrakes are way out of my range. Anyone run the Planet-X brakes? Anything else in the color red?

Thanks!

Why do you need the brakes to be red?

fashion police aside,

See about the pad and holder stack height. You may be able to replace them with shallower holders...

You haven't said where you're encountering clearance problems. Ciamillo (Zero G) makes brake shoes that are extra thin. If I recall correctly, the Dura Ace 7700 shoes are also quite thin. If width is the problem, maybe that will help.

I have both of these kinds of shoes at home. Let me know if you want some kind of measurement.

Good point about WHERE i need clearance- Basically the top arch of the brakes are well below the mounting points. It's more of a top peak, not an arch- see here:

Bruce - Do the Planet X brakes look like they have big clearance in this area?

Thanks!

I have red Negative GSL's on my Tarmac. These are not as hard to set-up as some people say, took me 15 minutes to get everything right.

They look great and have nice modulation and stopping power!

anodize the 7800s. find a local place; shouldn't cost more than $50ish. (probably the shop minimum charge)

get them to do your seatpost, stem, and the little metal hinges on your glasses at the same time.

I just measured multiple bikes

Planet X brakes with HED C2 rims and Michelin Pro4 700X23 tires has 0.5cm clearance

Zero Gravity brakes with Reynolds DV46C rims and Michelin Pro3 700X23 tires has 0.8 cm clearance

Zero Gs need to be run with the cam "open" in order to have the pads clear C2 rims

Bruce, if you use Ciamillo's slim brake shoes, that won't be true.

That's good to know
