Now a mountain lion or other predator I can understand. They want lunch.

But . . . GEESE?!?

:p

Anybody ever had a similar experience? Once a snapping turtle took out after me on the bike trail, but thank God there's at least ONE other living creature on the planet I can still outrun on my bike!

Don't eff w/ babies, how hard is that?

Let me guess, he didn't want to stop and wait for them to cross because it would ruin his ride.

Just last week, one of the ladies on our weekly couples ride reported being attacked by geese. In her case, the geese merely chased her while she tried to ride away.

Perhaps coincidentally, this attack was also by a canal towpath. Similar to the article, her conclusion was that the aggressive response from the geese may have been because she went to close to their nest.

now that foie gras has been banned by nanny states everywhere, they're pecking back in revenge. be careful out there.

Here in Ottawa Canada, we have a section of bike path running along the Ottawa river affectionately called the Goose Gauntlet.... it makes for an interesting commute home. They rarely attack, but they do sometimes snap at you.

I can't speak for the guy or his path, but our local towpath, whch lies between a river and a canal, has some killer geese right now and every year when their young are in tow. You could hang out and wait for a week and they won't move completely off of the trail as they are not crossing, just loitering. I very slowly ride through/past and the mommas hiss and occasionally come after me.

If you think geese are mean then you should stay away from peacocks.

I have had geese come over at me on bike paths...animal lover here...but if they get that neck caught in my spokes it is pretty much their problem...from those attacks they seem to have figured it out how to be safe...just power past and dont move...they love their bitchiness but it seems harmless...

now going past farms where chickens are in the bush next to road and cant be seen but blast out in shock as you go past and hit wheel...that is another story...roadkill unfortunately...

A couple years ago I was riding across a large corporate parking lot on a Sunday, probably going around 22+, heard some squawking and looked up to see a goose flying directly at me about 2-3 feet above the ground. Tried to get my foot uncliped to kick him in the chest but couldn't. He hit my thigh and knocked me a bit to the right but not down, then looped around and came at me from behind. I obviously pissed him off, but never saw a nest or young ones. I really hate those critters.

...territorial and aggressive birds. In Europe, a lot of farmers use them as equivalents of watch-dogs. In my (much) earlier years, I lived on a small hippie-style farm where we raised, among other things, geese. They were vicious and sneaky and could deliver a real hit that caused lots of bruising and pain. When it came time to kill a couple for the Thanksgiving feast we had promised the community, there were a lot of volunteers for the executioner role among us pacifist-types.
