Depends on the weather.

The worse the conditions, the better for Johnson.

Jesse Anthony in the U-23.

I'll be cheering for Barb Howe in the Elite Women and Melodie Metger in the Collegiate Women (I think I'm turning into a Bella Fella  ).

I gotta go with Page on SATURDAY. His experience, and recent results, racing against the very best in Belgium will pull him through. Same reason why the Aussies move to the North Shore. I'll be rooting for the Oregon guys though.

Tonkin is coming on. Bring the pain, snow, and freezing air. No one else has the pelt.

Tonkin and the Small Child in the top 5.

Current conditions:

Snow started around 8:00 AM or so and got heavy real fast. About 3-4 inches on the ground before it started changing to rain around 11:00 or so. It's turned wet and slushy. Water pooling in the ruts and making a big mess. Temp hovering around 34 degrees.

In short:

Wet mucky mucky cold!

What about Chris Horner??

I hear he's signed up to race. I don't expect him to win but is a top 10 finish likely??

Horner in the top 10? Highly unlikely, but not impossible.

3 years ago - record rain in Nor-Cal
2 years ago - torrential rain (week before and after quite pleasant)
1 year ago - torrential rain just before
this year, sounds like a blizzard while in Portland it's sunny and 42 degrees

it's cursed I tell ya

Shannon Update
We heard from Shannon, here's what he had to say...
Conditions went from freezing rain to snow to sleet during the race, super slick. Richard Feldman and Shannon duked it out off the line, Feldman went into the first corner way too hot and ate it. Shannon gets a gap with another guy, drops him, and rides away by himself. He said he was bonking the last couple laps, and was so cold that he thought he might not be able to get his legs back around for the next pedal stroke. 30 minutes later he's still in his car trying to warm up.

Tonkin's also racing the old man's race now, we'll let you know how he does.

Yeah, it's been quite a day for the weather here in NE. Almost slid off the road taking my daughter to school this morning. It slowed to a pleasant, fluffy flurry for most of the morning, and then, as I left my office for lunch, the blizzard hit downtown Boston; snow going sideways, thunder and lightning (!!!), and, six floors up, my office windows are caked in wet snow.

A lovely day for a bike ride.

Tomorrow looks fine, high around 45, sunny and light winds. Sunday? 25 mph winds!

Shannon was one of the first bike shop people I met in Portland. When I moved here by plane my Atlanta fork got busted. He ordered me a new one at the bike gallery...he used to work for Serotta too...
I was looking for a club ride to go on a year later...the manager of River City told me I should go ride with the guys from Torrefazione sunday mornings in the west hills (very very hilly)....So like a dork I show up, and one of the guys there was Shannon along with Erik Tonkin, Todd Littlehales ( a pro for the Navigaters), The Mavic Rep and some big looking joker on a cheap trek.. I had no idea who any of these people were...I mean I used to hang with some cat 2's in Boston but these guys turned out to be some of the best racers in the state..the big joker was Corey Staton the state champ...Ouch...He can really climb for a big guy...what a treat for me.
I rode with them all that summer...the most difficult rides of my life probably...I guess I was tougher back in 2000 when I was 26..alas..
Great to see Shannon on top finally! He really kicked my *** a few times.

PS....I almost caught Littlehales up thompson......Once. I'm a way better road rider than a cross racer..

He's wearing shorts because if he made like Sacha and did a naked lap in the snow he'd get DQ'd. Why else?

I was kind of planning on going and doing the race with an old riding partner...My Mom lives in Botson so it would have been a free trip...I'm kinda glad I stayed here!!! Looked like hell. I haven't been on snow let alone ridden my bike on it in years...
