Old Corsa $ Estimate

Hi All,

A classmate of mine has an old steel Merckx for sale. It's a (I think) late 80's vintage Corsa, with 2001 Ultegra parts. She was originally hoping to get $1000 for it but after months of unsuccessful eBay/Craigslist she conceded that the price was too high. Oh and as you can see from the attached photos, the paint condition is not so great.

She asked me to make her an offer. Could anyone weigh in?

I should add that I would seriously consider switching out the Ultegra for some used Centaur, or convert the bike into a fixie for casual city riding. I doubt the Ultegra, even in well-kept condition, would fetch much on the market.

I sold an '85 Merckx this year in much better shape than that for $200 (8 sp. Ultegra/DA). OK so I pretty much gave it away but I doubt I could have got more than $5-600. I think $500 is very fair and probably $450 is fair. IMO.

if it's on ebay, those close-up pix will lower the price. if i just saw the farther away overall bike pic, i'd say $600. the close-ups make it $400.

a newer 2001 like new one was on ebay tuesday I was the high bidder didnt make re serve my bid was $1150 wished I woud have won I wouldn't be ****in around over a canondale now cheers :beer:

bro i asked the guy, some times they will tell you when it's gettin down to the line if they really want to sell but he wouldn't tell nice bike to bad one of us didn't get it i.m.h.o. cheers
