I was lucky enough to participate in a charity ride with Emily Batty over the weekend. I noticed she seems to have her saddle really far forward. Is this a mountain bike thing or is it just because she is riding a bike that is too big for her?

It's likely a number of things:

1. Emily is quite short. So that often changes things a little compared to what we see from pro men who are 5'10" and ride 51-53cm frames.

2. It's also likely be different if she was actually riding her road bike and not her cross bike. Maybe she doesn't even ride road much? She's being doing a lot of cross riding, and she likely sets it up for competition not cruising a charity spin.

3. Maybe she, as you've asked, is used to her mountain bike?

It doesn't look that crazy. It just looks like a cross set-up.

good grief, really? analyzing her saddle position? i would ride right off the road and into a ditch out of sheer distraction if in that close of a proximity. :)

Holy smokes I've not heard of her before but she is about as cute as cute can be. And any girl that can handle this with a smile is just... wow <3

Oh yeah and back on topic. Most of the MTBr's I know tend to ride more upright. Not so sure about moving forward though. BUt what ever works.
