D/A 7700 Hubs VS Ultegra 6600 Hubs

D/A 7700 9 speed hubs are getting hard to find and are being phased out by D/A 7800 10 speed hubs. I like the D/A 7700 hubs because I can use them with my 9 and 10 speed bikes. I'm thinking about having another set of wheels built and plan to use either D/A 7700's or new Ulterga 6600 hubs. The new Ultegra 6600 hubs are 9 and 10 speed compatable unlike the current D/A 7800 which are only for 10 speed. I guess the question is, which hub is better, the older D/A or the new Ultegra design? Any opinions would be appreciated.

Just my 2 cents but I've preferred D/A components to Ultegra. Unlike Chorus/Record there seems to be more of a "jump." You need to consider that it is not just bearings but the entire hub finishing in areas such as races as well. Whereas shifter technology has improved I haven't read of any huge strides in the construction of their hubs. I think you would be happier in the long run with Dura Ace. This opinion is just that an opinion...I haven't ridden the new Ultegra or directly compared it to the older D/A. My opinion is based on 9 speed D/A to 9 speed Ultegra.

DA 9 hubs are lighter, better quality parts and more expensive. Ultegra 10 hubs are still well built, cheaper and heavier. Depends on your priorities.

7700 are nicer. They look better as well. No brainer, 7700.

These replies are pretty much what I expected to hear. I agree the D/A 7700's are nicer. I guess I better make a move before the 7700's are no longer available.

The Ultegra 6600 hubs were developed to be 9/10 speed cassette compatible. If you recall, you can only run 10 speed with the new DA hubs. I bought a couple of 7700 series hubs when Performance or Nashbar was clearing them out for somewhere in the $50 range.
