Colnago C50 refinish?

I have a Colnago C50 with the Pro00 finish. Can the clearcoat be redone without having to redo the graphics as well? If so, does anyone have a recommendation for having that done?

do you want the whole thing re-cleared? if you just have a few problem spots i think those could get repaired.

I currently have my carbon frame w/ Rick at D&D cycles to get a clear coat respray.

He's located here in the east SF Bay area and provided a beautiful repaint on a Pinarello SL frame years ago for me.

He advised that he would just lightly wet sand the entire frame to remove the existing clear coat ( without hitting the decals) and then resprayed, polished etc. He recommended the entire frame to be resprayed for a smooth even coat all over to avoid any "transition" areas experienced from spot spraying.

I don't have the frame back yet as I told him to take his time with it but he assured me it would look shiny new and have the confidence w/ him from my previous experience along with others folks similar + experiences.

I do not know his lead time but give him a call in Pa to find pricing and time. Bet you a glass of red you will be happy with paint. On west coast others have been referenced. Calfee and Joe Bell are also in that top echelon in my biased view:). Pete

I'm bumping a seven year-old thread because I never had the refinishing done. Since my original post the areas around the cable stops have gotten worse (see pic).

I spoke to Tom Kellogg years ago but unfortunately he's no longer an option. Any recommendations on someone who can redo the clear coat?

Except for the shipping cost maybe adding too much to the cost, I'd suggest velocolour.

They did a touch up on my speedvagen and you can't even see or feel it. They also do clear coats now as a regular service for $325 (CAD).

As an open offer to any member, if shipping cost one way is too high, you can send to my US drop box it then gets delivered to me for a flat fee of $10-15 per parcel and I could drop it off in person - I drive past their shop everyday.. You'd have to pay for shipping back directly from velocolour, but could save bit in shipping.

If you're seeing that issue around the cable stop, it is almost certainly caused by galvanic corrosion. This means you're going to want to find somebody who doesn't just do paint, but can also do repairs. It's not a hard repair to replace a cable stop, but if you just get it repainted without the fix, It's going to mess up the new paint.

My C50 has the same nude carbon look, which I love...

However, if I were going to refinish it, I would be tempted to go the full Mapei look. Change it up a bit. Certainly would drive up the cost tho, maybe by 3X...

Reminds me of a story. I took my red De Rosa to the Tour in 1994 and the Columbus SLX sticker at the bottom of the down tube was damaged. Toby sold me a new one but made me promise it was for an authentic SLX bike (it was!) and not a counterfeit.

I had mine “re-cleared”, if I recall my guy “touched up” the graphics before the clear.

It was not terribly expensive, but my guy spent more time cleaning up “pinholes” in the original clear coat so now, “better than new”
