Anybody ever paint a Thomson stem? How'd it come out?

I'm not sure about painting but Thomson now has "dress up kits" that will add a little anodized sparkle to your ride.

Yeah -- I was thinking more about a matte finish on a thomson..

I painted a Thomson post with krylon BBQ flat and it didn stick all that great. I sanded and cleaned the post really well. Maybe it was just cheap paint or that I didn't use primer.

COAT in Portland OR painted a pretty one for a Hufnagel bike. Rumor has it painted stems chip often.

what are you doing?
Steel bike with ISP and painted thomson stem now?

Please take a time out and stop trying to
re-invent the wheel for your new bike.

Sometimes the reason you never see something is because it's not a good idea.

For flat black use a 3t stem and acetone the logos, it is a similar profile to thomson.

Drew,
I'm about to have a few Thomson stems powdercoated to match frames. It's not a big deal, and if you're just looking for a matte black finish, it's an easy, locally-available alternative to paint.

A buddy of mine has a powder coated thomson. It looks great in person. Here's a profile of the bike/stem: http://prollyisnotprobably.com/2013/05/beautiful-bicycle-jesses-hufnagel-fire-road-racer/#1
