I have a 2009 Record drivetrain with Chorus UT compact crankset. Recently purchased an 11spd SR compact crankset. Will it work with my current 10spd drive train, including the 10spd chain.

Yes, my wife runs that. BTw, compatibility questions can almost always be answered via search. We've answered this one earlier this month.

Welcome to the forum! Most Internet searches on the topic will turn up queries about running 11 speed chains on a 10 speed crank, not the other way around.

As long as the chainring tooth fit in the chain that 10 speed will work even with an old 5 speed gen crankset w/o too much of a problem. 11 chairings are narrower than 10 speed ones just a tiny bit so it will work just fine.

YES

If you are not 100% you can still switch the chainrings with Specialite TA ones.

How well does it work? Perfectly?

Add my voice to the chorus.

Ooh, that's bad...

Anyway, Athena carbon 11 crank/Chorus 11 FD on an otherwise 10 spd drivetrain. Great.

I have run both R10 cranks on 11 speed drive trains and R11 cranks on a 10 speed drivetrain. For me the R11 cranks worked better with the 10 speed chain - downshifts onto the smaller ring were always caught clean.

Ignore the rebuke and ill manners posted from the member who does not speak for the collective "we". Here you are free to speak your mind. Welcome to the forum.

Well what a terrific response to my simple question. All those warm welcomes really warmed my heart. I am on a number of bike forums and I must say you are the best.
Thanks again for the warm welcome.

If that comment was directed at me, which I think it might, let me explain what I meant when I said: "Most Internet searches on the topic will turn up queries about running 11 speed chains on a 10 speed crank, not the other way around."

His question is fair because there is very little info about the setup that he is trying to run and a lot of info on 11 speed chains on 10 speed cranks. No harm intended. I was simply trying to say that he should not feel shy about asking such a question as the answer is not a simple google query click away. Hope that I did not offend anyone. I did open with a welcome to the forum and was the 1st person to do so.

Yes, done it more than once on 2008 and older 10s systems, for those that want NEW SR/Record or Chorus cranks.

Hello Black Dog, no my remark was not in any way addressed to you, I don't think anyone reading would take your response to the OP as terse or rude. No worries mate. BTW, every time I read your forum ID my brain goes (hey hey mama said the way you groove, gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove...)

BTw, compatibility questions can almost always be answered via search. We've answered this one earlier this month.

A member may post in any manner he deems fit, of course. A patronizing remark such as this and the arrogance or presumption that the poster is speaking for the entire forum membership "we" is self preoccupation.

Yea, no harm here. It is too easy to come sounding terse and clipped when writing a short reply. BTW, I was a year shy of existing when that song was released. Great song and until you pointed out that my handle reminded you of the song I did not know it was called Black Dog. Live and learn.
