I was given a Contour Roam Camera. However, it only came with surfboard mount, so looks like I will need to get mounts for cycling. Does anyone have experience with mounting this camera to bar or to helmet for moutainbike? Which would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

The helmet mount sticks up a bit. I don't like it. The mounts that slide into the grooves on the side are just not secure enough for me. That includes the strap mount, which I think is the best of the Contour mounts. If you back it up with a velcro tie it might be OK, but then it interferes with the on/off switch. I tried a Drift mount on a K-Edge bar mount that was sturdy, but it won't fit on my race bike. It's fine for the commuter. It uses the tripod insert.

I saw the profile mount, and I am a little nervous about trusting the camera to be attached to helmet by only the small patch of 3m stickies.

How sturdy is the vented helmet mount? I don't necessarily mind the height as long as I remember to duck when riding under tree trunks.

Where do you attach the flexible strap mount; handlebar, or on the downtube etc?

Thanks. Saw the various ways, and wanted to know if the vented helmet is sturdy, or whether the profile mount is even reliable at all with respect to not dropping it on the way. Also, would love to know if the handle bar mount vibrates too much for good viewing.

The helmet mount is pretty sturdy, but bulky. I have used the strap mount on the fork on the race bike, but I hit a bump and suddenly it was swinging by the tether. Never again. I am going to try and find a better helmet mount.

Good to know at least the helmet mount is sturdy. Definitely don't want to lose the camera on a bump!

Would love hear when you find a better helmet mount.

This is the one I am going to try next. I have it, just haven't had the time to install it.

I use ContourHDs on every ride I do, every race and every training ride, since early 2010. I even bought a second as a back up and then a Contour+ (but I haven't ridden with that yet).

I found the standard goggle mount to work well. It's designed for you to clip onto the goggle strap and it has a tether. (There's a cap mount that is missing the tether).

Goggle mount with a velcro strap through it. I think I stole the strap off of our Thule tandem mount. I bought a Jandd pants strap specifically for the goggle mount but haven't bothered trying it yet. You want a pretty wide strap or a pair of them. I think I tried a pair of narrow straps (from my frame pump I think) and it wasn't great, they let the camera flop a bit.

Back view.

I don't remember the various features of the various cameras but if you can't see where it's aiming then slide the camera as far back on the helmet as possible. This is based on road riding. For off road I don't have any recommendations/experiences.

I hit the ContourHD on the pavement at 30 mph (and yes it was on my helmet on my head at the time). It was fine.

Currently I'm trying to figure out a good way to mount one to the seatpost or under the saddle. It has to be bolted/screwed into place else I can't race with it. I want it primarily for training rides though.
