I have a park, the one that fits on a ratchet. it works but there's an inordinately loose fit to the BB (I'm a campy UT guy). I don't like it.

any tools out there with a nice snug fit, ideally also ratchet compatible?

Use a BOW (big ol' wrench) on the outside flats and put a QR through the middle of the socket to snug things up.

I'm also interested in an answer. My lbs uses Saran Wrap to take up slack in that interface. Clever, but hardly elegant!

But you still want something to keep it from slipping off. (ie QR or Saran Wrap)

Was going to suggest the Campagnolo version, then realized i t is not compatible with a socket.

Agree. Happy with mine - minimal marks left on the BB after using.

I use an old quick release.

Mike Zanconato's taught me to slip the tool on over a thin shop rag (like those boxed commercial clean up paper cloths or a thin cotton rag) to snug things up and to keep from scratching your finish. Works great with my Park tool.

Hawk Racing BB's say to use a paper towel. I suppose too you could use one strip of electrical tape around the bottom bracket to keep from scratching when using a tool - plus, since it's adhesive, it won't move around like a paper towel or rag.

I like the quick release idea. I do that when removing the BB cups from the bike; however, you can't really do that when installing because it requires (or wants, in any case) a torque wrench.

It slips off, nature of the beast. The trick is to apply pressure...I press my hip against the head of the torque wrench, reach through the frame and pull the BB shell towards me. It is a little bit acrobatic, but it works well enough.

Was going to suggest the Campagnolo version, then realized i t is not compatible with a socket.

Mine is.

Surprised nobody has thrown this out there yet, but Jason over at Abbey makes a rad 3/8" drive external BB tool:
