Anyone know if all Serotta frames, custom and stock geometry, have serial numbers? Do the custom frames not come with a serial number?

I'm looking at a frame and the seller (via email) says it does not have a serial number. I thought all Serotta frames had them.

Thanks,

Thom

Customs have a serial number with a C in it. Don't know about team frames.

My team 7-11 has a serial number.

Try checking the fork steerer.

Has he looked under the BB cable guide?

The Serottas in the stable, all from different eras, all have serial numbers. One is hard to read in the purple paint.... (Under the bb)

I believe all Serotta's have serial numbers.

My early '80s Serotta Club Special doesn't seem to have one. I looked under the BB (Cinelli) and pulled the card suit fork and only found the Columbus dove stamped into the steerer. I gave it a good look but didn't see any serial numbers anywhere on the frameset.

I have a late 80's Colorado which doesn't appear to have one on the frame either. It's not on the bottom bracket like most and if it is on one of the dropouts it is obscured by the paint.

I believe late 80s/early 90s is when they started stamping the SN# on the bb. Until that point it was usually on the steerer tube.

Hmm, wonder why then I got this comment about the 2007 CdA frame I'm looking at: "This is a custom frame and is therefore without a serial number, sorry."

highly unlikely. Sounds to me like the seller isn't interested in customer service. In the time it took him to respond he could have flipped the bike over and got the number off the BB.

I've never seen a Serotta without a number.

Is there a serial number on the frame of the older bikes or is it just on the fork as others have indicated?

I think there is...............at least every one I ever saw had one. It was usually stamped in the BB shell.

I think some of the frames didn't get stamped all that deeply and if the frame was sandblasted and repainted it could make it tough to see. The steerer is usually easy to see.
