Hi all,

Beyond a few ounces and a few more $$$ does anyone know the real differences between an Ultegra 6610 pedal and a Dura Ace 7800 pedal?

As always, thank you all in advance,

Steve

I believe that the Ultegra doesn't have the third-row of needle bearings that the Dura-Ace does...

What that third row of needle bearings does and how it effects performance.

Thanks,

Steve

the pedal's hang in a different position - one can get used to anything in time I suppose

Don't have the Ultegra but I am on my second Dura Ace. I think my first set was 7800 and the last one I bougth was 7801 or 7810.

Steve -- I can't help you with the differences between the two pedals, but it is interesting to note that the Ultegra pedal only has a 2.64/5.0 user review ranking on RoadBikeReview, compared to the reviews of the 7750 and 7800 (two listings) which all have 4 or above.

Additionally, there is a revision for both versions of the pedals and I don't know what changes or improvements have been made, but it is something to be aware of. The current version for the Ultegra level is 6610 and I'm not sure of the number for the Dura-Ace pedal.

Besides about 30g the main difference I can see is that the Q Factor is smaller on the DA pedal. For instance, you don't use a pedal wrench to remove a DA pedal, there isn't enough room. You remove them with an allen wrench from the other side of the crank. I'm guessing theres about 5mm difference on each side...if that's important to you.

Oh the other difference is about $100 or so.

I understand (I don't recall the source) that Ultegra's have a slightly higher stack height. You would need to compare them side by side to confirm this.

I have a set of the Ultegra's and I am not missing the third set of bearings. They are very smooth and solid.

Steve,
I've got a pair of each and if I was blindfolded, wouldn't be able to tell the differennce between them.

To prove my point, I blindfolded myself and took each bike for a quick spin around the block. Amazing but true.

Couldn't tell the difference.

The corners were brutal.

Steve,
I've been using the Ultegra version for about 18 months and they've been trouble-free and always easy to get in and out of.

I've been using the ultegra with a fixed cleat. I've even...get this.... smacked it on the ground a few times and they are still smooth and solid. imho, save the money for new chains, bro.
