Holy smokes! I hope you didn't put your ski's away.

84 here yesterday, but I've been out stoking the boiler this morning. We're not supposed to get any snow, but cold and rainy through the weekend.

New Hampshire's been baking lately. Although I ride in the wee hours of the morning, so the cool morning breeze does a cyclist good.

Yeah, we had some warmer weather (70s) over the weekend and early this week. Now we have about 6 inches of snow on the ground with predictions of up to 18 inches by this evening. Oh, and the all-time record for the snowiest month of May on record was only 2 inches...so we may get up to nine times more snow this month than we've ever had in May before.

The kids love the snow day and I can't get to work because there's a car blocking the outlet to our block. But we may be losing several nice birch trees that are already straining under the weight of the heavy wet snow, and the power has been flickering on and off this morning.

In a freak chance of timing my Rapha Deep Winter Bibs should be here tomorrow. Let's just say I had a hunch.

Strangely and thankfully, the ground is still bare in the Twin Cities proper. We were supposed to get 6 to 9 inches but it missed us by a whisker. I drove to work today, but I may go home at noon and get my bike. We might still get a little bit over the next two days in this strange Mayvember, but it should warm up next week.

that's called a local/regional weather anomaly... under many global warming projections, local/regional weather anomalies are predicted to increase. therefore, it actually does support "global change". (many scientist prefer the term 'global change' (or climate change) to 'global warming' because of things like this... some regions will actually experience more cold weather anomalies... even if the general trend is toward warmer temperatures).

Yeah, the snow you guys had a week or two ago went just north of us, so the roads were totally clear here when you had a foot or more on the ground. Guess it was our turn this time. Interesting how often this year you could get totally different weather just by driving an hour or two. I might try driving up there to get a ride in today...if only I could get out of our driveway.

Yeah, I know. It's just too bad that scientists a few years back were so eager to use the term "global warming"...since cold/snowy spells like this might cause many people to think that climate change isn't really happening. If they'd have started with a term like "climate change," the long-term message might have been easier for the public to recognize.

"Global weirding (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/global_weirding)" might not be particularly catchy, but it has always seemed accurate to me.

global warming has reversed the effects of gravity in MN.
Republicans counter that it is liberal, iPad driven media-conspiracy.

I'm looking at the national radar mosaic, and I see that storm that is dropping snow.... it looks mostly to be travling in a line to the north east.

Forecast here is for 70's into the beginning of next week... You'll be in my thoughts, I'll ride in support of your struggles against mother nature.

I'm pretty sure global warming is about as accurate a term as one could coin. The relative idea that Rio might be 30 F at some point is probably not going to matter once the polar ice caps and every high mountain glacier have disappeared.

Or MN stops having Spring blizzards. ;)

Climate change is always happening, except, maybe in Santa Barbara where it's always a perfect day.

Dallas is expected to have it's second lowest recorded temperature in May tonight - 38. The lowest reading was 34 in 1903.

I am thankful for the cool spell. I'll be riding a full century on Saturday with less than 700 miles on the bike so far this year.

Nothing to see here. The science is settled. "Global warming" stopped 16 years ago. A consensus has been reached- 31,000 scientists agree that global warming is a hoax.

If you add more energy to an inherently unstable system, you don't expect it to get more stable.

You mean your lakes are melting already or your 80 year old grandma spent all night sawing down the three feet to open water for the kids to play in like up here?

I think both sides of the border can agree this is better than starting out the year with an imminent drought. Or Lake Delton a mud pocked field of guys with metal sensors.

Latest update - the Rochester Airport (about 5 miles from my house, where the pic in the OP was taken) has reported 13.5 inches of snow as of an hour ago. Still falling lightly, so storm totals will probably be around 15+ inches.

It was such a short summer....

We are riding south of Northfield, MN in the Sogn Valley on Sunday.

Have to remember the Nokians at this rate.

It is amazing though what a sharp cutoff there was to the snow line.

We live in St.Paul and we rode last night without snow.

Leaving in a few minutes for another ride tonight and the roads are dry.

Most scientists can barely talk to each other in cohesive comprensible ways....
*** are you talking about...?

...maybe incomprehensible to laymen and cretins... but as a "Scientist" I can say with absolute certainty that "cohesive" and "comprehensible" communication is all we engage in. If it seems too esoteric or jargon-ey for you to understand, it's because of your scientific literacy. Scientists are not consultants who try and obfuscate the information they are trying to relate... they do everything they can to reduce the complexity and share the information with as wide an audience as possible.

real talk.

It was such a short summer....

That elicited a chuckle. Just got back from a pleasantly blustery ride along the Mississippi on bone dry roads. I rode almost every day this Winter but it felt nice to have bare legs and not wash salt off the bike immediately after walking in the door.

I betcha that foot and a half of snow will melt fairly quickly so the mosquitoes can get at your ankles.
