Howdy,

I just purchased a Serotta which came with a campy C10 chain with a KMC master link (I think they call it the "missing link"). For the life I me, I cannot get this thing apart. I raced mountain bikes for several years using SRAM's chains and never had a problem disengaging their master links. SRAM has you squeeze their link ever so slightly. Is there something I'm missing here with the KMC?

Never use a campy chain before but if it's the regular KMC master link-type, here's how...

Slide the retaining clip (1) of the master link (3) until the reliefs are centered over the link pins. Remove the clip and side plate (2). Slide the master link out and remove the chain.

Try a set of these masterlink pliers. When I used a KMC link they were a godsend in getting them open.

there are different kinds of KMC link. KMC missing link II, for example, is NOT removeable. you essentially dispose of it and get a new one.

edit: by dispose of "it" i mean the link, not the chain. heh. so chain-breaker the link and toss it. i actually prefer it this way. it gives me peace of mind that my link doesn't have a function to fall off. (though i've never had issues with sram or any other removeable link)
