I love night rides (just as I loved night runs when I was a distance runner). Night riding appeals to me aesthetically and fits my screwed up bio rhythms. Here in AZ with the clear skies and bright moon, night riding is very seductive.

If I start my workout during sunlight I'll usually grab a road bike. But if I start at sunset/twilight, it's usually a big tire (28-38) CX or Sport Tour -- Litespeed Appalachian, RB-T, Cannondale ST600, Surly CC SS -- to hammer through the cracks, ruts and junk, and take back the night.

You've seen all of my night riders. Now let's see yours!

This is what I take on night rides, your right you need big tires to soak up all the pot holes you can't see. My light is an old Niterider that used to run on a 12v lead acid battery. I actually converted it to a lightweight 11.1 volt lithium polymer battery.

Living in Sandy Eggo, we'd have 'full moon 'no light' night rides.' The moon was bright enough that you didn't need lights at all!

Lots of fun bombing around off-road without lights.

Yes, you CAN see fairly well if there aren't any trees overhead.
