What do people think, or better yet know from experience, about this lovely product?

On my bikes right now I have "stuffed handlebra", but seeking something new and different, these babies caught my attention.

I am a baseball fan, and the stitching reminds me of a baseball-
they look sleep and mighty fine. But I envision a fight with my mechanic about installing them...

Velo Orange has that bar wrap. I've used it on several bikes and I consider it excellent! http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/accessories/elkhide-sewn-on-bar-covers.html

those look sweet- yeah I like that concept.
Do you have bikes with new shifters with the housings running under the wrap ok?

yup, I am thinking of sending him some bars and getting the expert sew-up.

I don't want to buy it and ham-fist it up and have it look poo.

They are certainly not going to feel as padded as double wrapped handlebra over padded tape... but they look fine!
Bright white please,
now do I want baby blue stitching to match the Luigino paint, or just pure white ...

I believe that the person offering the wrap posts here. His user ID is Columbus SLX...

I have used these and they are nice. Not hard to install but do take time and patience.
I actually have a set of black that I never installed - $30 if anyone is interested.

I've bought some from him...really nice product, I just have to get around to installing it. Terrific guy to deal with.

it looks like fun
I will give it a shot-- once I figure out what bars I like, and be sure to report back.

I used the Velo-Orange version some years ago. It was pretty easy to stitch on, though, it does require patience. It's lasted a very long time as well. I think I'm still using the wrap I put on in 2007!

Same here. It was a fun couple of hours in the garage with a beverage sewing on the VO bar wrap. I have the golden elkskin and it's very well worn in now but still going strong.

The VO site has the sewing instructions as a pdf. It's not difficult to do the baseball stitch.

update: the VO stuff is coming off soon, to be replaced by a potential new Handlebra natural leather.

Second one down, ERGO, how do you change housing or on the brake under the wrap..?? Seems like a real PITA, IMHO.

It is exactly as you might expect... Un-sew the wrap (or cut the thread) and then sew it back on.

You can trust Velotopia/Columbus SLX... I do!
But I'm not biased or anything, I've only known (and ridden bikes with) him since I was 5. :bike:

As soon as I find a suitable piece of red leather, I'm having him make me a set for my Daccordi 50th Anniversary.

I have the original Cinelli wrap on my '84 De Rosa SP and love it.

That can be arranged.;)

I don't have great "overall' shots of it yet but I'll see if I can take some shots with a less distracting background and then put it up in the Production Bikes gallery.

That looks really cool! It makes me want to do leather wrap on my old De Rosa.

does this type of wrap do well on ergo style handlebars? i have some cinelli touch ergo bars such as above i would like to try this on....

and on a separate note: i have been debating whether i am setting up my bars correctly: should the ends be parallel to ground or just slightly angled up? or should the tops where they bend down into the drops be parallel to the ground?
