Should be received and built up by end of next week. Probably won't have a chance to take pictures of just the frame... so next pics will be all built up.

Here's a pic.

Stunning! Can't wait to see the rest of the build...what color saddle and tape are you putting on that?

Right now, I have this fizik saddle and this seat post in mind. I think the red should match the chris king somewhat. Note sure what color tape I'll put on it, at this point. Hoping that once everything else is on, I'll get a 'feeling' of what color tape.

Love white bikes! Search the thread and post when complete. Kirk is on my wishlist of two--Dave still turns them around rather quickly, and time is on my side.

FWIW...I had a wet painted white bike ages ago. Had some brake pad drippage on the seat stays while riding in the rain one day that permanently stained the paintjob. Probably not a bad idea to keep that baby waxed.

Usa, usa, usa!

Is that so bad for a frame made in the USA?

this was my inspiration. I saw this bike while I was in undergrad and I lusted after it, but couldn't afford it at the time. I designed the paint job to be 'inspired by' but not a copy of the Trek.

Louis... Are you really gonna allow Matt to get this Kirk built up before your's???

This is the week to make it happen...I can feel it! :p

You know, I thought of that. A long, long time ago I bought an Eriksen post for my Terraplane because I think it will be a good match with the curve of the stays. When I saw that he is doing the same thing I thought "People are going to accuse me of copying Matt's bike..."

Actually, my current project is tweaking my SS 29'er so I can get that running. If anything gets done this week, it will be that one.

Well, I'm copying Kirk007's Kirk... so, I guess (as they say) it is all derivative :)

What kind of tire clearance does that baby have?

I hope to see it in person this summer for some riding up your way.

Thanks, come on up! I'll show you some good rides :)

It will take up to 28s, though right now, my plan is to put 25s on it, probably continental gp 4 seasons -- it is really going to be a road bike at its heart, but will be able to take on some dirt roads if I feel like it. My current bike, the Lemond Zurich, will continue to have conti gatorskins in 28. So I think it will be the bike I look to for rain and heavy dirt road riding.

The way I envision adding to the collection is that my next bike will be a 'do everything' bike, with rack and fender mounts, probably something like Surly long haul trucker or cross check, that I can use for commuting, errands, rain, etc. Bike after that will probably be a cheap ss/fixed gear.

Those are two 'slots' that are pretty bare right now, and both should be MUCH cheaper than a custom.

Once I get those slots filled, I'll probably go back to the well for another custom. Who knows what type of bike... I have more ideas for paint schemes than I do for bike types at this point.

Edit: oh yeah, the one thing I do want to try on my next custom is campy chorus...

Dave built mine 8 years and nearly 47,000 miles ago...and I have no desire to replace it as my everyday ride. It rides like a dream. Enjoy!

Nice Matt!

White bikes Rule! If it isn't brushed Ti it's "Good-guy" white for me.
That Kirk looks eleventy-billion times better than the Trek that inspired it. I don't think you paint will discolor but nevertheless wax is your friend, as well as a good piece of clear frame tape on the chainstay.

A beauty indeed! I was to go white on my Kirk, ended up with white panels instead. Looking at the frame, with the red accents you have going on, me thinks blue bar tape would look killer, if you could get a blue that plays nice with the frame. What are you hanging on it?

Hey Matt, congrats my friend, you deserve a ride like that!

Thanks to all the compliments. Sadly, this bike won't make my slow ass any faster... but it'll give me good reason to put in an all time high for annual mileage this year, despite the inauspicious weather this spring! In the fall, I may actually be worthy!

Blue is a definite possibility for the tape, I think white (with the white saddle) might make the whole bike a little stark. We'll see once it gets built up.

Hand built wheels, HED belgium rims with white industry hubs; ultegra mechanical group. I believe that the ultegra 6600 on my Lemond might actually look better on this bike, with the silver alloy playing better with the white frame... But honestly, just wanted something good and reliable and decided to go with the new group.

Congrats on the new bike!

Looking forward to see the bike built-up...and, have you decided which shade of 6700 you'll be hanging on it? Glossy Grey or Silver, assuming that by Ultegra you meant 6700?

yeah, the silver isn't available anymore, unless I tried to acquire each part of the group separately. So I'll be going with the grey.

I figure that it'll give me something to do in a couple years when I am wanting to 'change things up', I can go out and find a complete silver alloy group and build it up that way.

Right now, my primary concerns are getting it on the road fast, and for as little money as possible. :)

Good choice on the wheels, love mine, the wide rims plus terraplane stays makes for a wonderfully smooth yet grounded ride. Looking forward to seeing this all built up.

I actually think the grey will complement the bike better, so you're at a nice spot by my estimations :)

This is the only blue I'm seeing on the fizik site. Maybe I'm missing something. I also wonder if a grey color might look good.

Hey Matt... There's Fizik Dual tape...white with blue threading and Fizik makes a metallic blue microtex as well.

The metallic blue might clash with your blue if it's too light. The other (SID) blue is very bright/light and doesn't look good with "navy" blues.

A few other companies make tape with colored stitch as well...not sure if there is any navy blue/white thread out there though.

I can match that grey bar tape with a saddle cover in faux leather. Dark Grey is an interesting option, esp. with the grey Ultegra. I'm betting it would look great. Charcoal grey on the left. Elephant grey on the right. Different tape but you get the idea.

Of course, Ray and I can do a red or black saddle and Handlebra tape package for you if you want to go that route. I've done plenty of those Fizik's.
