Hey Guys... Does anyone have experience with any of the cheaper cross forks? I need/want fender eyelets and was looking specifically at:

Kinesis Pure CX, 480g, $145:

http://www.wiggle.com/kinesis-purecx-carbon-fork/

Origin 8 ULtim8 Cyclocross Fork, 545g, $160:

http://www.origin-8.com/?page_id=91&short_code=Ultim-8+700c+Full+Carbon+Cross&prod_model_uid=5950&cl1=FORKS

Very similar forks other than the slightly higher crown of the Kinesis, and the (supposedly) 65g difference.

Any other suggestions?

BTW...I have a 750g alloy steerer fork now, and was hoping to drop a little weight...but...I still want eyelets. I wish the old Alphas had eyelets, or the EC90x for that matter!

TIA

The EC90x has eyelets.

You're right...brain fart on my end. Maybe it was the price turning me off?! I'll have to see what I can get one for.

Any experience with the cheaper forks??

I got a Ritchey Comp with eyelets for dirt cheap. Still has an Al steerer but it weighs in at 650 uncut according to the specs. I'll be looking for the WCS in the near future.

A caveat that I'm sure you are already considering: CX forks seem to vary more in the axle/crown measurements than other forks (my surely flawed observation) and you can get them in a LOT of different rakes.

Easton forks are pricey new, but they go for $100-200 used.

though i haven't had experience with that fork, it is hard to go wrong with Kinesis.

It's finding the used with 270-280mm of steerer that is hard!

Yeah...Definitely have to pay attention to the axle-to-crown. I'm at 45mm, so should be easy enough to find a 43-47mm.

f_A... Have you used any recent Kinesis road forks?

Obviously, they have been at it a long time and are one of the larger TW manufacturers...

Jeebus, how tall are you?

??? Only 6', more torso then leg...

175mm HT + 31.4mm Orbit-X HS + 70mm VO Tall stack (75-5mm at top as "spacer") = 276.4

BTW, this is for a gravel/dirt bike...FWIW.
