Anyone ridden the Danube cycling path?

I've ridden portions of the Danube Radweg (bikepath) twice, from Salzburg to Vienna and Passau to Vienna.

I did as a young student, from source to Vienna. It is a nice touristic ride with some spectacular scenery, especially at the beginning. It is great for relaxed touring without many climbs.

It hardly is enjoyable if you like to ride at a quick pace as the paths can be narrow, sometimes unpaved, and will be infested with walkers and large groups of *very* slow groups of riders, especially on weekends and in the holiday season it can get virtually unrideable.
For folks who like a reasonably brisk pace, it is better find a route on roads nearby. It is also possible to leave the river at Passau and reach Vienna on a more southern route, better suited for the more ambitious tourer. Would need a gps and/or some map work beforehand as there isn't a prepared route with signpost, obviously.

The sections past Regensburg can be bitches if it is windy, as the route will be often in an exposed position on the dam.

It is a brilliant way of seeing some stunning scenery and getting to know central Europe and the heart of the Habsburg empire.

I love it. On a forum where if one asks a very specific and direct question you get a plethora of answers to the question not asked as well as all sorts of other advice, the inimitable Dave Thompson gives the minimalist answer. I guess he could have just said "yes" or "just my size". Made me chuckle anyway.
