Evrey Thanksgiving day there is an 8k Turkey Trot run in Chicago (at the Lakefront in Lincoln Park neighborhood). There are around 5000 people running. This was my 5th annual Turkey Trot. This year was especially fun because I ran with a co worker that is just getting introduced to running (and hopefully cycling later). But this was her very first race, I ran her race her pace for encouragement and fun. Do you have any non traditional Thanksgiving traditions?

For the past 20 years I've run Cincinnati's Turkeyday 10 K race which is one of the oldest foot races in the country. This year's was number 96 and attracted about 10,000 runners. My daughter joining me when she started running cross country in 1997 and our family tradition has continued for 9 years. I used to run her pace but now she has to slow down for me.

When we moved from Cincy last year our first ride was to Red Rocks with the (DBTC) Denver Bicycle Tour Club on Thanksgiving Day. We repeated that ride this year with 22 riders. It's a 22 mile ride with 1,400 ft of climbing.

I have pictures but they won't upload.

Hey George, hope you had a nice run. I ran here in the Western 'burbs (18deg and 25mi winds!!) and it was COLD! Thought about drivin' to Chitown for the Turkey trot but opted to spend more time with the kids. Anyhow, a T-day tradition over here has been to have Chinese noodles with our turkey. The Chinese culture mandates a noodle dish for all celebrations, you see the noodle good luck thing and symbolizes long life. This is also why all good Chinese Banquets serve a noodle dish towards the end of the meal. Everyone have a nice Thanksgiving!

Every year we get a giant chocolate turkey from the costco and I do a ceremonial beheading at the end of the dinner. The kids seem to dig it.

I rent a hotel room with a view of the Macy's parade. Fill it up with my kids, and my nieces and nephews, and wait for someone to complain about the noise. If someone complains about the noise, we hand them a bag of confetti and invite them to throw it out the window on the crowd below. This was our 9th year.

My family rents a condo in the White Mountains (just got back!) - We do a climb of some sort from the AMC camp at Pinkney Notch, and then dine on turkey and stuffing brought all the way from Savenor's on Beacon Hill. Friday we go ice skating, and Saturday we shop in North Conway. Miscellaneous hiking and eating occurs.
