I am intrigued by the modern artistry in bilaminate construction.

I have seen some amazing examples by Winter, Bishop, Icarus, Goodrich - but only a handful through searches here and in the Custom Galleries. I bet not everyone includes the keyword "bilaminate" in their posts and so I a missing a bunch.

I would love to see pics of some bilam work that owners love.

I am curious to see how you chose to paint over/detail the bilams.

Seat tube sleeves and head tube sleeves welcome.

Subtle or highly stylized!

Thank you all. If you have a gallery thread on your bike, a link is fine- you don't have to re post the images if you prefer.

And, of course, if you want to link to a photo gallery of some bi lam work you love, that is welcome too.

Both Dave's have done some nice examples as well (Kirk and Wages)!

Love the Bi-Lam frames...still drool thinking about that Bishop from NAHBS 2011!

Mitch Pryor (M.A.P. Cycles) has been doing a lot with bilaminate in the past year. Check his flickr photo stream http://www.flickr.com/photos/mapcycles/ Here is a recent example:

Running out the door, but I thought I'd put this up. Will try to post a better shot on my return from the UK (or you can see the bike there!).

My kids just found this photo (yes an actual photo!) of this weird thing.

I had to awkwardly explain that many years ago, daddy had a thing with a Dekerf road bike that didn’t last long, but was incredibly beautiful. I even was dated Mommy at the time, which made things worse ;)

Seriously, this is from about 2002 and I bought it directly from Dekerf and he would paint it any colour I wanted. It was stunning (and sadly one size too big). I thought someone might appreciate the soft lighting and airbrushed texture - Mmmmm, mmmm - DAMN!

Sorry, I cannot find a photo of the actual bike! Lug porn teaser...

Or ogling that fine fit cyclist of the female gender. I'd be pressed to avoid doing that myself. Notice intentional lack of the usual precursor to my use of the 'pressed'. Let's keep it that way. :p

Question: I expected to see carbon tube bonding to metals from the title. So what exactly is "Bi-Laminate"

I love my wife participation/riding with. Being older than she and retired sooner, I do not get to enjoy bike time with her as much as I'd like.

You guys have a tandem too? Fun and worthwhile if you are lucky enough to have the most resilient of relationships. ;)

A to Bi-Laminate, I am seeing lugged mixed with filet brazing, is that what the term is indicating. My English is torched thusly.

what the heck is "bi-laminate"? As above...is it mixed lugs and filet brazed?

That is what my CSI has...back before they had lugs for the 1.125" head tube...it was called "faux lugs" back then.

Yes, that is essentially it. Combining "partial lugs" with filet brazing started, as I understand it, from a desire to have more flexibility in custom geometry than allowed when using only lugs, while retaining some of the aesthetic appeal of lugs.

OK, take back what I said about the English above. It is Filet, unless he is hiding lugs under the brass. ;)

OK, is what I see here a silver soldered HT in after TT is brazed to the lug?

Or, in deference to the Janusian nature of bi-laminate construction:
"Combining "partial lugs" with fillet brazing started, as I understand it, from a desire to have less flexibility in custom geometry than allowed when using fully fillet-brazed construction, while retaining only some of the aesthetic appeal of fully fillet-brazed construction." ;) ;) ;)

For myself, on the pageant podium:
1. Fully fillet-brazed (Steve Rex and a few others).
2. Bi-laminate (Ellis, Kirk, and a few others).
3a. Minimal full (such as Prugnat long-point, with very thin shore-lines) lugs.
3b. Llewellyn "Cadenzia" lugs.
101. "Fancy" ornate lugs.

There are some really beautiful bi-lam bicycles posted here, great stuff.

In this case, i believe the “lugs” were created by cutting away material from a fillet brazed head tube. Then a sleeve inserted and silver brazed in, leaving the appearance of lugs.
