I need your perspective. Should I venture out with the new ee silver cranks since I'm trying to build a more vintage look. Or stick with 9000 cranks with Chris king silver hubs? 1697858903

You will need to try really hard to make that frame look ugly! That said I don't think either crank mentioned have a "classic" look - which is not to say they aren't great cranks.

Unless you need a compact, I'd say put some NOS or pristine used 7800 cranks on there.

Is the ee crank available yet? I haven't seen anything about it other than someone was testing them and it was supposedly close to being finalized for sale.

Also, what is the price of the ee crank? The DA 9000 crank is something like $700?! Which is basically Campy SR ti territory!

Good Luck! :eek::butt::confused:

You need a good silver crank and silver bottle cages, post and stem.

I'm not knocking the EE crank, but visually, I can only think of one bike where I'd chose it over just about any other crank.

DA is an easy choice for me on this one. You've already got the black/silver thing going with bars/stem/headset/brakes.

The latest from Kirk Pacenti was that the EE crank will only be available in black. The silver on Bikerumor and NAHBS is a prototype. Maybe something has changed in the past few weeks but anodized black is what was told to me.

I would go ee without thinking twice as long as it is avalible in silver.

Are you going 11 speed? Check to see if there is 100% compatibility currently with "aftermarket" cranks. I wouldn't do 10 speed with the 9000 crankset personally.

IMHO I'd go with the 9000 since I find the EE to be cool but distracting. I think they would look great on one of those crazy NAHBS chromed lugged show bikes. Also, I would favor debadging the stem/post but that would probably affect future resale on those pieces.

If you could find a 7800 and it works for you that would be a good choice too.

If those are EE brakes, I would vote to match it up with the crank (if available to you).

Experimenting with many "boutique-ish" parts has taught me to go with the tried and true. In this case, that would be the DA crank (even though it is a new iteration). Boutique parts have been nothing but headaches for me.

I decided on Athena w/ 10 speed chainrings for my vintage-style build.
