Hey guys, first time poster here. Anyone around here know much about Tiziano Zullo and the frames that he builds? I'm looking at some classic steel Italian frames to build up as a speedy commuter and trainer. Any thoughts?

Not so much the new builds, but I am somewhat up to speed on the older models.

I chatted with him quite a bit at NAHBS. A very nice man indeed. I wish my Italian would have been better. :(

Here's my Sprint. A real keeper.

I worked in a shop in the mid-late 80's that sold a few of those, probably less than 20 total. They were nice frames, came in straight with great paint (big change from most other bikes of the same origin). Don't recall ever seeing one fail.

Gomango's looks like what rolled out the door in 1987. Nuovo Record drivetrain, Grand Sport brakes, nice. We got them as frames and built them up so it ws easy to check alignment first, chase threads, hone seatubes etc. Zullos came in nice needing little if any work.

If it's a good price and kinda beat up, I'd go for it. Pristine or pricey, I'd pass for commuting or indoor trainer. (might still buy it but not for that use)

I met Zullo and a few of his employees at the "Eurpoean handbuilt bike expo" 2009. He had lugged frames (The red ones; apparently "NOS": straight out of his basement) and a few new ones. Nice craftsmanship, very nice paintjobs. A viable budget alternative if you don't want to wait (or pay) for a Pego.

Wow the yellow and white bikes are fantastic.

Actually they're all fantastic.

I myself have a lugged Spirit bike coming and I didn't think baby blue or cream were possibilities for me. The Spirit bike with blue and cream and the red accents really makes that fork crown/head tube just beautiful.

I think Zullo sponsored the TVM team back in the early 90's. I seem to remember Phil Anderson racing one on the team.

My favorites to ride were the Specials and the Criteriums.

Both were very effective mile eaters around here for several riding seasons.

My Sprint that is pictured at the top of the thread was a purely accidental acquisition.

My wife and I were almost home from a ride in her brother's town of Emmerting, Bayern when we stopped by an in-laws for a half liter.

Our talk turned to bikes and he said he had quite a few older racing bicycles in the cellar.

This Sprint was one of them and there are still a few others down there........:)

Not exactly sure why but I've always liked Zullo and his excellent paint jobs.
Really like the yellow one above.

It looks like Zullo's got a bit of a following. The paint on all your frames is incredible. The frame I just bought is matte black ( and with Oria KK tubing, something I'm also curious about), a far cry from all your examples! I will post some pics as soon as it arrives in the mail and is built up.
