I think most Sachs cross bikes have Campy drive trains. What are the pro/cons of 9spd vs 10spd? Does the 10spd stuff w/narrower chains/cogs hold up as well?

no. we use dura ace 12-27 9 speed with
either ergopower 9 or sti 9 and the appropriate
rear derailleur. we never use 10 on a
cyclocross bicycle.

thanks--do you use any gadgets to mate the ergopower with Shimano cassettes?

What is the feeling with the new SRAM equipment coming out, is it going to be suited for cross bikes?

Not to nay say the master e-Richie but I have been using campy centaur 10 for two years in some of the most muddy races in the country and I have been nothing but impressed by how well it works. I seem to have better shifting than most of the guys around me..... or a better mechanic....right Pdxmech?

I'd like a 27 too....

and furthermore, you don't need
that many gear choices in a cross event.

So for next year I'm thinking of this..

ripping off the beat up Centaur parts on my cross "bike" and putting them on my atlanta for racing road. Thay way if I tank it, I won't care at all..

Then I'll just get a new 9 speed campy rear derailleur and brifter, shimano 9 cassette and chain. No derailleur up front, and some better brakes.. Would this work well?

I was checking out those cross racing pics posted by e-richie the other day.
The one question that came to me right away was:
"Yikes!, What brands/kinds of pedals do those guys use"

VF

PS I bet a cross bike with a rear rack and clipon front fender
would be very cool for touring around undeveloped
countries vs a traditional "touring" road bike setup.
