I have been pleasantly surprised how good the bacon sold in bulk from the custom butcher display case at our local Von's (Safeway) and Ralphs (Kroeger) markets. I can buy any amount that I want and it is thick-sliced, lean and very tasty. I like it better than all the usual packaged stuff. At $4 a pound I think it's a bargain. I have occasionally had some "gourmet" bacon that was a little better but it was $8-15 a pound and not available at my local supermarket like this stuff.

I actually prefer thin slices, and make it crispy.
The fancy artesian stuff misses the point.
It's bacon. Just add maple syrup.

Wait, there are bacon wells where you are? Truly, you live in a land of plenty!

Absolutely! Try the so-thin-you-can read-through-it stuff Jack in the Box puts on a Supreme Croissant for instance.
