I know it's foolish, but I really don't like the look of the gumwall tire on this bike. All modern carbon parts, black post and stem, etc.

Clement x'plor mso 700x 40 looks promising and is probably what I will end up with.

What else is out there? I am pretty sure I can fit 29x1.75 tires on this but there aren't too many options in that side for mixed use, gravel type tires.

I really like the Vee Rubber XCX 1.75 (http://www.blackmtncycles.com/2012/02/vee-rubber.html), which measures out to about 47mm

How do they do on pavement?

I found those tires, but wished the "12" was available in 1.75. That tread looks perfect for what I want to do.

The Bontrager XR1 on my 29er is 1.9" - it alllllmost fits my cross bike but no dice. That same tire in 1.75 would be great.

Like that review says, they're not great on pavement. The BG tires are much better on the road.

Panaracer T serve 700 32's are nice for road and gravel. Fairly light and fairly tough, with decent price.

I put the Clements on my wife's bike - they look very well thought out.

I have a set of Panaracer Firecross 45mm tires that get race reviews, but that is for Monstercrossing, not touring.

They won't fit my from so they're for sale - bummer...

I have heard the same about the firecross - great in the dirt, dogs on the road.

Where did you find the Clement MSOs? They seem to be out of stock/on backorder everywhere.

I know Mike Varley at http://www.blackmtncycles.com/ is a big fan of the Clements as well as the RnR tires... he has a couple blog posts in 2012 on them I believe...
