I had heard rumors of an alternate way up to the Col de Vence from la Tronche compared to the usual big loop through Corenc under the Fort St. Eynard. The latter is quite busy usually, but apart from that a very pleasant climb with nice views and some tough grades towards the top. After a little searching on the map+Strava I found a series of roads through a web of residential roads (all paved) which seemed like the right way. It was complicated enough that I printed out a small map, but didn't end up using it. Start along the bike path

Tried to find a way through all the construction on the Quaix -- BBDave+velotel, the pizzeria we went to is just on the left! Behind the cement mixer, I think.

On the main road, and then the road kicks up.. oof!

does it ever let up? At this point, 10% seemed like a rest

This last part, around the bend in the photo, felt close to 20+%. Front wheel was hopping up

It's a hidden gem of a road, really. I could do without the absolute caning at the top though! I think there is a way to skip that part, but if not it is a little intense for a lunchtime ride.

Awesome. Though I think I hate you now for having that available to you for a lunchtime ride. :)

You folks look to be having the same extended winter we're having. Wind chill here this morning was well below zero F. Oh, and a good 6-8 inches of snow still on the ground as well.

Beautiful pics, BTW.

Awesome, makes me jealous!!

When it warms up, I'll have to take some pictures of the hills around here!

thanks guys! Yeah it does feel like it's been a long winter, even with a long vacation to CA. I thought we were through it and then it snowed again on Monday. Nice weather today, though. Was nowhere close to 0F

I had to look at these again today along with some of your other posts. I've been stuck inside working for two weeks and too much kid duty on the weekend. I hope to get out tomorrow, even for an hour. However, my lunch ride will be a bologna sandwich on white bread with yellow mustard in comparison to your seven course gourmet delight.

Thanks Max.....I love your posts.

You and Velotel should be getting a stipend from the French tourist industry....you've both inspired a lot of people to want to travel to France.
