How does the Catlilke do on keeping the sun off the scalp?
I like the fit of the Giro Atmos, but it has such gaping holes in it, that I'd fear that I'd need to wear a skull cap under it all the time to keep the sun out, or zinc my head.

Imagine if Lance was bald in this photo!

i almost ALWAYS wear a cycling cap under my helmet.

i'm a huge fan of the craft breathable ones. keep the sun off my head/neck/forehead depending on which way i have it turned. i would think if you're bald under the helmet something like this would be pretty mandatory in strong sun.

My head is also huge. 7 3/4" or 61cm. I'm maxing out the largest size in most helmets. Finding a hat that fits in the first place is hard, and then finding one thin enough to fit between my head and helmet is another challenge.
Catlike large might not even work.

Agree. I shave my head and I always wear a cap underneath. A thin fleece one when it's cold, and any cycling cap that I "modify" for ventilation during the summer.

i have a whisper plus...part of the whole schtick is good ventilation i.e. a lot of holes

just wear a cap as has already been suggested

Yeah, but those holes look more open to front not to the top, when you're in riding position.

On both helmets you mention (and frankly on any helmet I've ever ridden) I end up getting tanned rhomboidal patches on my scalp under the helmet vents. I end up moving my head around enough that I've never gotten really badly burned (and that included several years in central Texas), but I definitely got some significant tanned spots. I ended up sitting out on a deck with no head protection and a mild spf protection to build an even tan.

never had an issue with my catlike, but then I *always* wear a cap.

In Summer, I have tried a skull cap but, with MD heat\humidity, I find it cooler without. It does help with sweat streaming into my eyes though. I do enough dog walks with no hat to smooth out the tan!

Oh Ron Popeil, if it was only that easy...

Nothing to do with hair or not but.

Personally go with the Atmos, I have heard nothing but bad reviews from fellow cyclists on the catlike adjustment mechanism.

And wear a cap, all the cool kids are doing it.

I shave my head and use a liberal dose of sunscreen everywhere that is exposed.

Use a wig and get any helmet you like.
