View Full Version : Max rim size with Serotta F1 fork?

I'm considering switching to wider rims such as the Velocity A23 or the DT Swiss RR 440 to be used on a Serotta HC which has the old Serotta F1 fork. This fork is known to have a very tight clearance which prohibits the use of many tires larger than 25C or in the case of Michelin Pro Race above 23C.

So if I were to use one of these wider rims, would I have the same or increased interference with the F1 fork as the tire profile will undoubtedly change? Does anyone have any direct experience with wider rims under the F1 and if so what tires are you running?

Sam...no help with the wider rim size as I run Open Pros on an F1, but 25mm Conti 4Seasons fit with the OP's.

Someone once told me 28mm was the maximum. I haven't tried it though, so I don't know for sure.

I had Open Pros on my CSi w/F1 fork. The critical dimension for tires was under the crotch of the fork where the tire would rub when I ran anything bigger than 700x25. I can't imagine wanting a rim so wide that side clearance would be a problem. With a wider rim I think you might gain a little clearance vertically because it would pull the tire into a slightly wider and shorter profile.

My opinion though is that the F1 was designed for 700x23 or smaller tires and even 700x25 is pushing the safety envelope as there is so little clearance that mud or a stick, etc. picked up by a tire could cause a sudden stop.

I'm using Velocity A23's with Vredestein Fortezza Tricomp 23s. No issues with clearance. Too tight for 25s.

I ran CXp33 with Michelin 23 ...

25 would not fit.
