BRING ON THE CLASSICS!!

Wonder who is going to win this one... my guess is on a Belgian!

I love Het Nieuwsblad, although I hate the fact that it provides an opportunity for some people to remind everybody that they liked bike racing before you did. "I liked it better when it was Het Volk." blah blah blah.

Can't believe the season's starting already.

My hopes are with Taylor Phinney.

Also, the Tour of Langkawi starts on Thursday.... but it just doesn't rub me the same way as the one day races. :help:

I haven't seen a start list yet... is he riding it?

yeah, he's doing Omloop, Strade Bianchi, and the Ronde.

Looking forward to this and the rest of the Classics.
Any way to see it or part of it in the U.S.?

I think I read something on VeloNews saying he was riding it, along with Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix.

Nothin' much better in the late winter/early spring than going to Steephill.tv or Cyclingfans and watching the live feed of a Classic (or in this case, semi-Classic), while sipping an espresso or similar on a Saturday morning.

IIRC, the finish is usually somewhere around 9:30-10 AM CST.

For an added treat, skip EuroSport (English) and listen to the Sporza announcers in Dutch/Flemish instead.

I love the classics, but I hate that they're already here. I'd love to see Taylor win a few. I saw the VN article in which he said he's feeling great.

I would appreciate it if someone posts any links to free internet broadcasts. Maybe a sticky is needed.

;) Speak for yourself, my friend ;) To me, classics season means it is almost time to ride outside without having to prepare like its a trip to Everest. just shorts and jersey.... :fight:

this is the race where Boonen normally tests his hill climbing form by going 'turbo' up that very difficult hill called T.........something. When he's fit he looks absolutely awesome steaming up there, leaving the rest to grovel in the gutter.

OK, another image... this from the 2011 finish, another great race.

Truly epic conditions.

Ah, the Spring Classic season. An example of where the events actually live up to your heightened expectations... or even exceed them.:banana::banana::banana::banana:

Should have gone to Stanford - any school that can raise $1B in a year is amazing!

Good overview. (http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/omloop-het-nieuwsblad-elite-2013/preview)

Wonder how Tom Boonen will be feeling. Didn't realize he had medical problems over the winter. Elbow infection.... sounds gross.

TB at press conference on Wednesday:
"The wind is probably the most important factor of the day on Saturday." Boonen said. "If it is the same as it was today It's going to really destroy the race. it is going to be a very hard race."

... and the forecast for Gent tomorrow: high of 35 F (2 C), with a stiff NE wind at 15-20 mph.

I'm reading the times right. Right? 1135 start in Belgium = 0545 start in DC.

16XX finish = 10XX finish in DC

Guess I'd better get up early!

I don't think you're going to find video before 8am. So if you do get up, it'll be to read text updates of the race. This info is from the cyclingfans website, so it is possible others can get video earlier if the host broadcasters start coverage sooner.
