Noticing some frames come with cable routing designed for zip ties. Namely the Soma Double Cross DC and the Milwaukee OX Platinum Disc frames. Also seen it on the Lemond Fillmore (also OX platinum) fixed gears from a few years ago. What is the purpose of the zip tie routing?

I imagine it has something to do with mud and the ability to run a fully-lined cables from the lever to the caliper?

What are the benefits?

I think its a means to secure hydraulic brake cables. Not elegant, but functional.

They are used to secure the full length cable housings or hoses that most disc brakes systems use.

They also make little plastic clips that will secure the line instead of zip ties.

nice - makes complete sense now. Never thought of hydraulic lines.

Really entertaining the idea of the Milwaukee cross.

I used these (http://problemsolversbike.com/products/hydraulic_brake_hose_guides) on my MTB....they work well IMO.

I use them on my Redline to secure the front lighting wires. The battery is in the rear pack.

In my case (Full Tilt Boogie) the zip ties secure the rear derailleur housing to the frame down the drive side seat stay. I get most of a full housing run so dirt/crap/stuff doesn't get into the housing and muck up shifting as much.
