I need to replace the rear rim on the bike that I use for light touring and brevets. The hub is Shimano 105 9-speed 36h. I looked around my stash of parts and the only 36h clincher rim I have is a single Campagnolo Omega, like this but with a V-profile: http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx?ID=FE7484FC-33D7-4CD9-B71F-E361A63119E6&Enum=107&AbsPos=21.

I weigh 178 and often tour with 20 lbs in a saddlebag, riding pretty rough roads. Would this rim stand up to rather hard use with a 130mm hub, or should I be better off using a more modern rim (like a Velocity Synergy O/C) and saving the Omega for a vintage project?

I'm not clear on the rim you have. As I recall, the V profile lacked eyelets, but the more rounded (Open 4 ish but taller) Omega 19 was eyeletted. I have an Omega Strada hardox (box section, double eyelets) that's cracked around an eyelet. It looks to have had little use, but I don't know its history.

What's on the front wheel? I might be interested in the Campy rim, as I have several single Omega wheels.

Sorry for being unclear: no eyelets, V-profile. Rim has a few hundred miles of use, when I had it laced to a front C-Record hub. A few years ago, a 240-lb rider crashed and fell on top of me, turning my rear Omega rim into a pretzel, so I only have one of them sitting around (the C-Record hubs are now laced to a set of Open Pros).

I have several in the rotation without any problems, but carrying quite a bit less weight than you are planning. Here's a pic from 1994. Catalog says 440g.

Thanks -- the second from the bottom is the one I have.

I think I'll save the Omega rim for a front wheel at some point, and get a Synergy to lace to the rear 105 hub.
