I am thinking of getting a set of Neutron tubular wheels. But I am not anxious to spend $600+ for a new set if I can get used for far less.

On ebay there are a couple sets of Nucleon tubulars and I suspect that they will go for far less than a new set would cost.

I know that buying a used wheelset is very risky business, but these wheels have great reputations for strength and durability.

Are there any differences at all between Nucleons and Neutrons? Or is it just a name change? If so, I may start to bid on ebay, a new thing for me.

I believe that it was essentially just a name change. I have the Nucleon clinchers and they are a very nice set of wheels.

Nucleon = silver spokes

Neutron = black spokes

i think that's the only real difference. I have a set of Neutron tubulars and I love them!

Good Luck,

Also. the neutron rear wheel seemed to use double butted spokes.

I can confirm that the Nucleons have silver spokes.

The sales rep for campy in the US told me that the nucleons had silver, round spokes whereas the nuetrons have black, aero spokes. However, I do not think he is correct, as the nucleons I have seen appear to have bladed spokes.

I've checked the Campy 2002 (sorry a typo previously) catalogue: the only two differences stated by Campy- black spokes, and the double butted spokes in the rear wheel for the Neutrons.

2004 Neutrons also have newer lighter rims than previous years.
