i'm aware that many of the framebuilders here can make custom stems,

wondering who, if anyone produces an affordable, off-the-shelf steel stem, tig welded, for OS bars and 1-1/8 steerer.

something like the salsa... but they dont seem to be available now, and had a safety recall on some of their stems?

The Salsas were made by Waterford. I don't see stems on the Waterford site, though.

I know that Rawland is looking into a 1" threadless stem for their upcoming Stag model (been meaning to start a thread on that bike).

Over on the Rawland list, I've heard of some NOS steel Kelly stems on the ubiquitous-auction-site-many-of-us-begrudgingly-use. Not sure if they're still up there or not.

Kelly still makes steel stems and according to the pricing on his site, the price is $135.

Does Bruce Gordon still have the Chicken Necks available ? Not sure they were offered as a treadless option though.

This was my thought as well. I would like to see them recreate the original salsa quill stems as well.

I do still make Chicken Necks.
I can do threadless also.
Please call (707) 762-5601 - please no emails about stems.

This place is just awesome. You get a response from the man himself. Very cool.

OP asked for stock stems, not custom. That being said, there are some great custom options.

Check out the Nitto CT-80. Beautiful fillet-brazed chromed stem, threadless clamp and both 25.4 and 31.8 mm bar clamp. The 25.4 version is the nicest stem out there to go with Nitto B123 steel track bars.
