saw this on my local craigslist: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/bik/3602998073.html

Is that an accurate value of the frame and fork? Don't know much about these bikes. Looks like a sweet, mint condition frame though

but overpriced IMO. $1200 for the complete bike sounds right but not for F/F/HS

compare that to what Waterfords are currently selling for it's appropriate. why so much since it's a old frame? Handbuilt lugged goodness can't be had for that price. Quality tubing and a paint job that doesn't look like it's seen much abuse. Probably has a 1" headtube so going to a different fork might be a challenge but it looks sweet.

Yea .... I tend to agree.

1200 frn frame/fork/headset is out there.

The used bike market is soft.

Waterford bikes are quality custom frames built in WI. The company is owned by Richard Schwinn. The frames are excellent with very good paint jobs. A new frame will cost quite a bit more. But yeah, unless the frame really rocks your world, it is a bit pricey in my opinion. Waterfords are really great frames, but they just don't quite have the cache or hold the value that many other American custom frames do.

A 1200 frameset retailed for $1100 in 1996. I think the cheapest current lugged model is the R22, which costs $2325 with fork.

You can get a new Waterford 14-series frame for $1500, but that's TIG welded and no fork. So yeah, $1250 for a 90's f/f/hs is a little pricey.

Yeah, a new 22 series frame and fork are right at $2400 though there are some differences like threadless 1 1/8 setup. I think if as close to new as described $1200 might be okay for the entire bike. Similar bikes sell for around that for the complete bike on ebay.

For the frame and fork only I say it is too much.

If it is late 90's probably built with 853/OX Plat lugged tubes. If it is as mint as he says it is not that terribly priced compared to what you would pay for the same build today from a reputable company.

I had a Waterford RS1100 that was a wonderful bike. I loaned it to a pal and he "made" me sell it to him though he also had a Merlin Cielo.

The 2200 has lighter tubes, fancier lugs and paint. I would be thrilled to buy one of these for $1000 for like-new frame/fork. This is beautiful to my eye and the W'ford steel forks ride very well.

I also had a CSi and it would be hard to choose which was better.

For a frame (ooh, bad pun, that...) of reference: http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=111195&highlight=waterford

Eventually sold on the 'Bay for $750.

It's worth as much as someone will pay. I personally would snatch it up for $800.

He's got premium Waterford, mid scale Gunnar, and builds for a few other brands too...I think Terry and Hostel Shoppe recumbents. Good guy, good bikes.

Agreed, Waterfords are really nice frames, but don't hold value as well as others.

It would have been mine had it been my size, just about perfect in every way.
