Good luck to the sponsors.

Also, I hope we have enough turnover so it doesn't get stale.

It's great that the forums could attract all these sponsors. Way to go!

But - personal opinion here - I find their placement too intrusive vs content. I have a 21" wide aspect monitor. It may be small by today's standards but now that the ads are here, and with all the stickies, the first thread to read is 2/3 down in the page. See "Greg LeMond" thread here, this is my screen https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3032014/paceline.png

I think - again it's personal - that they would be better in a side column. And you can get more $$$ for the one that's on top

Embarrassed to say, my adblocker is blocking the ads. Does anyone know how to make it show them? I'd like to support our fellow members.

Thanks.

There will certainly be some additional changes, such as rotating the location of the ads, possibly dropping the container box, etc. We've also talked about putting them down the side, but this is the first version and I wanted to get this out there for our sponsors.

Since we can't reply to the locked thread on top...

Can we (a) shrink the paceline logo and/or (b) move the Donate button within some element of the forum, so my 1200x800 screen isn't half used before I even start browsing? :)

Edit: oh, missed the "ribbon" thread.... :bike:

yes, i like it. i've never been happy to see advertising before.Don't worry, we are NOT going commercial (think RBR). However, we do have some sponsors for The Paceline which should keep this place alive...after all there are costs to run this forum. But no one is making any $'s from The Paceline...it all goes to running the forum.

I like that the sponsors are in large part valuable contributors to the forum as well and not random selections based on browser cookies.

Can you please make the background in box black, like the paceline logo.

It is hurting my eyes.

just a concern

the black background, no1. mimics the logo - so Feng sh-way and all, and no2. it helps creat a a natural border between the pic/links. Let's strive for harmony, eh ?

*tell d2 they need a much clearer image, foggy and looks unprofessional to its neighbors

i'll get all gimpy (http://www.gimp.org/) on ya and create a full with black background, and also a second to mach the blue on the forum. when i get home

As one of the sponsors - I like the way it's done.

If you look at Styleforum (http://www.styleforum.net/f/5/classic-menswear), you'll see they're now selling standard ad units (I'm guess via one of the major networks), and they've shoved the sponsors to the bottom.

If the positioning is really upsetting to some folks, here's a few other ways to handle it:

1) Sponsor ribbon (stack) down the left
2) Each side of the Paceline logo.
3) Replace ribbon with a single ad unit and rotate per page load across the sponsors - there's software that should make this fair for all of us.

There's also fun annoying tactics like showing interstitial ad "posts" in between real posts for non-members.

That said, we're not in this for the clicks or impressions - we can buy those wherever. We've wanted to sponsor this place since the day it became the Paceline so that it could stay up and running.

Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad that both our sponsors and members like the results. We may look at other options for displaying the ads, but for now this seems to be working for the majority.
