Just making sure. Fit seems awful tight and I don't want to force it unless it "should" be in there.

Mine, a 1996 model, does.

Ironic you should mention. I had a CSI and found the 27.2 to be way too tight so I bought a DA 27.0 post and used a coke-can shim.

No problem with a 27.2 on both my CSi's.

Is a coke can really less than .1 mm thick? maybe it was just your 27.2 that wasent up to standard.

I was a Thomson, so it probably was a perfect 27.2. A Record post preceded it, and removing it was a Herculean feat. The Thommy just wouldn't go in despite all strength and lubrication efforts.

Things go better with Coke.®

What size bike? Is it possible that different seat tubes, some with non-27.2 internal diameters, were used on the larger and smaller sizes?

They were all 27.2mm.

Elefantino, I have a feeling that your binder bolt ears were/are a bit fatigued, what I'll usually do with a frame like this is to remove the bolt and then try to gently pry the binder open with a large flat bladed screwdriver, alternating one side to and then the other. Usually the only part of the seat tube that is too tight is the very top by the binder, once you open it up, any 27.2 post should fit. If the old post was seized in, it's possible there might be some residue that could cause your problem, but you'd see lots of bits of your old post missing after you got it out if that was the case.

Run a flex hone in there, make sure the 'ears' aren't squished in...
