Had a 'industry guy' get a Cannondale with Di2, DA 11s. The local shimano rep said it was the first one he knew of in CO. We put it together for him.

Set up like any Di2...interesting part was plugging the little junction box under the stem into the 'puter' to receive and get software updates on all the components and then program the shifters. Freaky...like my Iphone, that went into recovery mode(?) and had to be 'recovered' in itunes..

Set up was easy, bike is light and GD expensive.

$1000 rear derailleur anyone?

ok, ok, $850 rear der...

Oof, that's rough.

Seen any Athena EPS yet by chance? Curious your thoughts on the group if you have.

$1000 rear derailleur anyone?
My interest in 11s Di2 took a nosedive when I realized you could only use Dura Ace cassettes ($300 on sale at Competitive Cyclist).
Granted, that's half the (list) price of Super Record, but still, I gotta wait for Ultregra or 105 11 speed for the disposables.

My wholesale is $531. $759 is about a 30% margin..with volume, yep, w/o, lights off.

With Ultegra 10 speed DI2, (with a $200.00 part), you can plug it into your computer, do firmware updates, adjust shifting speed, how many shifts when holding in the paddle, etc...

The techie in me thinks its all pretty cool! No offense to the retro grouches, I hope.

Yeah, it is pretty cool. But at what point do those 'cool' features result in diminishing returns? I mean, how much better can shifting get?

same here....I completely overlooked there would only be ONE choice for cassette....the $300 choice. it is what it is...but OUCH. At least with 10sp Di2 or EPS you can use a ultegra or chorus cassette....some might say anyone who can shell $4k + on a group shouldn't whine about another $150-200 on a cassette, but I guess I would counter that of all the parts, that is the one piece where the weight and performance differences are insignificant (to me)...the rest of the stuff you have to buy, by definition, to go electric. the cassette doesnt care if electrons or metal are moving the chain across the cogs

It is only a matter of time before the lower level groups go to 11 so you will be able to buy an 11 speed ultegra or 105 cassette likely before you wear out the DA cassette. Same with chains.

Been there, done that:

"Before riding while using its mind-reading capabilities, a cyclist needs to train the bike to read his mind. Its "thought sensitive" helmet picks up brain waves, which are transmitted to the bicycle's brain-controlled electronic “neurotransmission. “

You make it sound like Di2 receives wireless downloads. Is that true, only because I've heard rumors Di2 can be upgraded wirelessly.

fwiw, i'm using a chorus 11sp cassette with my mechanical DA9000 11sp. works great actually. $130 = not bad. i tried it cuz i have campy wheels. i never would have expected to buy a campy part just to save money......

12spd DA? Based off historical trends, ~3 years after Campagnolo goes to 12. If you want a head start, buy tiso.

Same here, except with 10. I started at 10 when I got my first real road bike several years back, and I've stockpiled enough backup components to keep it that way for quite some time.

As a campy guy, I get nervous about 10spd. 11 has been around long enough that I could see them going full line with it soon. The new 3x10 groups this year did let me breath a little easier.

I'm waiting for the really fun hacks that you know are coming. Since both Di2 and EPS are really just computers, it shouldn't be too hard (and I don'thtink will take too long) to make a hacked controller that lets you do all manner of things. I know that there is a video floating around of a Bluetooth shifter set-up for Di2, but I am also hoping to see universal brake levers that can handle both. After all, the shifter is now no more than a set of micro switches.

The rear derailleur is just a servo motor doing what you tell it to. As mentioned earlier int eh thread, no reason why it won't shift Campy and Shimano, and any number of cogs for that matter as long as you have the computer brain to tell it what you want. An iPhone could probably be trained to do all of those things via Bluetooth without too much trouble, and would work fine if you were willing to deal with the limited battery life.

Maybe I should get my brother the computer genius to do this....

Anyway, I think the sky's the limit on this stuff, until your batteries go dead.

Was this the same bike that was on the cover of Velo Buyer's Guide?

My only objection is that 11 spd forced the drive side hub flange to be pushed further inboard, which theoretically makes for a weaker wheel, but with the use of asymmetrical rims that's probably not a big deal.

OE only right now, coming on some new bikes. As a 9 piece group, about the same as 10s DA Di2..for us at (shudder, horrors) retail it's about $4300 plus or minus depending on battery, extra shifters, that kinda of stuff.

Ultegra Di2 about the same as mechanical DA 9000..in the $2500 or so range.

Record EPS about the same as DA Di2, Athena EPS about the same as mechanical Record and Ultegra Di2....

Selection

8s-12-23 and 13-26 only but geeez, 8s Campagnolo went away in 1997.

9s-12-23, 13-26, 13-28...and 9s went away in 2000...

I have no problem getting the above cogsets from 4-5 distributors, have all in stock right now. I may be off base but MO does not the market make. Some 'MO' outfits say that there are no 36h hubsets or rims available also.
